GUIDE ON RICHARD'S RIVER CAMP IN KENYA
A verdant bush savannah plain dotted with acacia trees spread as far as you can see is the bordering section of the Mara North and Olare Motorogi Conservancies where Richard's River Camp is located. Overlooking the Ngoyanai Springs that not only serve to maintain the greenery but also draw thirsty animals, your stay at this boutique premier camp during your authentic bush holiday in East Africa will feature many exciting moments as you may see zebras foraging around Njageteck River or the resident pride of lions bringing down a meal right in front of you. Originally set up by Richard and Liz, the camp has an airy common area that will delight you with its classic, elegant themed furnishings. Sink into their plush sofas and revel in the comfort of the woven rugs under your feet. Choose drinks from their tiny bar or pick out a book from the mini-library to better fathom the fauna you see. But of course, a better authority to answer your questions and offer you interesting bits of insider information are your hosts, the Maasai as they discretely look after your needs on your personalized tour of Masai Mara National Reserve. One of them will leader up as your guide when you go exploring the game reserve and conservancy in a custom-equipped safari vehicle. Let him enlighten you to appreciate and understand the delicate insect life of Masai Mara and the fascinating flora that his people use to make medicinal elixirs. The safari activities at Richard's River Camp are done at Mara North Conservancy. When you visit his village on a cultural tour, you could even watch them being made along with the gorgeous bead jewelry making, cattle husbandry and other daily chores around the village. Also, optionally spend time wafting over the glorious landscape of Masai Mara in a hot air balloon for a bird’s eye view of its incredible diversity of wildlife (bookable via your AfricanMecca travel planner). Back at Richard’s River Camp, you can retire to one of the 7 guest tents it offers. The soothing green colors of the tents seem to blend into their viridescent backdrop, but their interiors with their eclectic combination of fabrics with different patterns and textures are simply adorable. Some of the tents come with a double bed while others have twin beds, and in addition, one of the tents is a two-bedroom combination for families’ safari traveling in Kenya. A beautifully carved dresser with drawers stands on one side with soft rugs on the floor and a seating area complete with a footstool. Netted windows allow in the light zephyrs, sounds and scents of the wilderness around you. And at night along with turndown services, the staff places hot water bottles in your bed for a comfortable sleep. You will be entranced with the safari themed en-suite bathroom that has stone floors with bamboo-like trunks for the walls. Enjoy the showering in the open experience on your bush vacation in Africa, in the soft light of the morning or under the twinkling stars at night. The bathroom also has a vanity counter for your morning routine before leaving for your game drive. Evenings at the camp are magical with lighted traditional lanterns placed everywhere and a campfire lit around which you can enjoy sundowner drinks as the sun sets over Masai Mara. Relive every daily moment of your AfricanMecca dream trip in magical Kenya by the campfire or in the bar area as you have warm conversations with your loved ones and other guests. Have dinner under the velvety African sky, another delicious meal cooked and served with care.
