GUIDE ON SARUNI MARA IN KENYA
An exquisite AfricanMecca bush vacation awaits you at Saruni Mara, a boutique bush accommodation in the south-western expanse of Kenya. Nestled within a quiet valley of the private Mara North Conservancy, the camp offers an intimate setting where you put your mind and body at ease after an action-adventure tour of Masai Mara. Beyond the breathtaking aspects of the premier location, you feel even more immersed in the bush because of the distance from the more mass areas of the reserve that can be teeming with vehicles and camps. The charm of Saruni Mara is apparent as you walk along winding stone pathways that lead to the main areas. The sounds of outlandish birds and enchanting terrestrial animals fill the air. Whether you choose one of the 5 cottages, the family villa or private villa, you are sure to be delighted with every moment. The décor of each cottage reflects a theme that is representative of the many people who have found solace and inspiration during their bush country safaris in Africa. The Observatory celebrates the vast star-filled skies of Africa and features an antique brass telescope, a small selection of astronomy materials and moon map. Romance and intimacy abound in The Love Shack (a.k.a as Honeymoon Suite) that features antiques, private dining area and other characteristics that ignite your intimate adoration for each other. Three of the cottages commemorate the creative minds that have ventured into the East African bush – The Photographer’s Studio with a collection of art prints, The Artist’s Studio and The Literary Room that is filled with books and a vintage typewriter. All of the cottages feature en-suite bathrooms and private verandahs. The Natural History Suite (a.k.a Family Villa) appreciates the exterior contours and diverse forms of nature. The villa features two ensuite bedrooms, lounge area, fireplace and private verandah, as well as a sampling of the family’s private antiques. Located just a few minutes from the main area of the camp is Nyati House, a two bedroom villa with two en-suite bathrooms, kitchen, dining area, lounge and spacious verandah. AfricanMecca guests who stay at Nyati House enjoy the utmost pampered trip in Masai Mara, as a private safari vehicle and guide are assigned exclusively to the house. As tempting as it may be to stay cuddled in your luxurious quarters, the call of the wilderness awakens you each morning. Tea and coffee are brought to you before you meet with your guide. Masai Mara National Reserve and the surrounding private conservancies have an abundance of wildlife that makes it a superior African safari destination any time of year. From July to October, though, the area has a different energy when the herds of wildebeests and zebras pass through as part of the migration that arrived from Serengeti National Park. Spending part of your Kenya photo travels in the reserve and conservancy gives you access to snap many of the world’s treasured creatures. Elephants, giraffes, buffalos, gazelles, elands, topis and many other species graze upon the plains while majestic lions, cheetahs, leopards and other hunters lay in wait in tall grasses and in dense bushes. With so much to see, you can spend the morning and afternoon on a game drive, or simply stay in the bush all day (read more on the best time to visit Masai Mara for an off-beat African safari). Daylong game drives include a picnic lunch, so you need not return to Saruni Mara for food. If you return to camp in between your wildlife-seeking travel in the conservancy, the camp offers a delectable lunch, as well as afternoon tea. You also have time to read, nap, meet new friends and much more. Sunset cocktails and dinner gives you time to share stories of your day before retiring to bed. You may wish to add even more adventure to your ideal wilderness holiday in Masai Mara Game Reserve with a Maasai cultural tour, hot air balloon flight, guided safari walk, birding tour and night game drive.
