Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For The Manor At Ngorongoro

Set amidst tranquil gardens within a 1500 acre coffee farm in Northern Tanzania, The Manor at Ngorongoro combines bygone Colonial charm with East African hospitality at its best. For a truly luxurious taste of Cape Dutch style and modern Elewana comfort with all the drama of African adventure, The Manor at Ngorongoro safari cannot be beaten.

Adjacent to the borders of Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, in verdant highlands, it makes a memorable home-base from which to explore the entire range of the volcanic uplands and the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater itself, a collapsed volcano which contains the densest and most diverse wildlife to be found on a tour to Africa.

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, designed as a shared use, sustainable project in which local pastoralist tribesmen, the Maasai, and others subsist side by side with a vast diversity of local flora and fauna and the eco-tourism that makes it possible. Here, mankind has thrived for over three and a half million years constantly evolving new and better ways to survive.

At The Manor at Ngorongoro, this process has been further refined to provide an unforgettable setting for an African holiday, or even for an utterly delightful Tanzania safari honeymoon. With your AfricanMecca expert guide, you can drive to The Manor at Ngorongoro in little more than 4 hours from Arusha, through volcanic highlands, farms and lush montane forest, or you can fly to Lake Manyara Airstrip, beside what Ernest Hemingway considered the most beautiful lake in all Africa.

Accommodation At The Manor At Ngorongoro

The imposing Manor House, which contains a home theatre, snooker table, sauna, massage room, and library with Wi-Fi, dominates 20 superbly designed luxury suites in 10 cottages, each with its own private entrance and sun terrace with upholstered loungers, overlooking landscaped gardens and neatly ordered valley plantations (Explore other accommodations to stay in Ngorongoro).

Spacious suites feature elegant lounge and dining areas. Double fireplaces serve both lounge and bedroom with the cozy warmth of blazing logs on chilly evenings. Writing desks hold stationery folders. Tea and coffee are at hand with delicious homemade biscuits. Charging points, universal adaptors, electronic safes, emergency flashlights, and bottled water are standard. Internal telephones link to room service. King-size beds -- opulently prepared. Extra comfortable beds can be supplemented if required. They are hospitably turned down every night. Linen is refreshed daily. Laundry services are also available.

An en-suite bathroom features a claw-footed Victorian-style bath which you will find, warmly welcoming and strewn with rose or bougainvillea petals when you return from your daily adventures. A ‘rainfall’ shower and double vanity stand complete the arrangements with complimentary specially perfumed shampoos, soaps, and conditioners. Slippers, bathrobes, and hairdryers are provided. Towels are changed daily.

Also, available is the “Stable Cottage”, a family suite on two floors, ideal for families of four to six guests on an AfricanMecca vacation in Tanzania. Situated behind riding stables with courtyard available as an outdoor dining area, it boasts a master and a twin bedroom, both with en-suite bathrooms, and a separate dining area and a family lounge. Upstairs is a twin children’s bedroom, a toddler’s nursery and a playroom with satellite TV.

Safari At The Manor At Ngorongoro

The most imperative activity of any African safari is a game viewing drive. In the Ngorongoro Crater Area, this is undertaken in a customized 4 x 4 vehicle with a pop-up top. As you drive towards the main crater gate, your eminently knowledgeable AfricanMecca guide will point out animals, which you happen to encounter on route, such as giraffe, impala oribi, and topi which are not found in the crater itself. Self-effacing nocturnal animals like leopard and crested porcupine may also be spotted early morning on route to the start of your allotted 6-hour Ngorongoro Crater trip.

Because the time you can spend exploring the crater biosphere is limited for conservation reasons, your guide exchanges information on sightings and tracks with others by radio to maximize your chances of seeing the most exciting action. There may be hippo in the marshes, old tusker elephants near the fever tree forests, or whole prides of black-maned lion being held at bay by advancing lines of huge male buffalo protecting their females and calf.

You will most probably also see some of the resident black rhino found in this favored sanctuary, not to mention hundreds of avian jewels, brightly colored sunbirds, weavers, starlings and rollers, or curiosities such as big-footed ostriches, parading secretary birds and bizarre kori bustards.

Other favored Tanzania safari activities available include horse-riding or mountain biking on the highlands, visiting villages and farms to sample daily activities in a vitally different way of life, or learning about prehistoric man in the Olduvai Gorge. You will learn more about yourself too as you pamper yourself with sensuous massages, sumptuous lodgings, and breathtaking vistas of natural beauty on your mind-expanding tour in Africa.

Dining At The Manor At Ngorongoro

A welcoming cool, scented towel presented with savory platter and fruit drinks on arrival sets the standard for dining at The Manor at Ngorongoro. At the Manor, service is superlative. A magnificent formal dining room offers African and International cuisine supplemented by beers, juices, spirits, and fine wines from their own cellar. Savory snacks are also available at the bar. Breakfast in your room or in the dining conservatory at the Manor House. Or opt for an early wake-up call with fragrant, Tanzanian tea or coffee brought discreetly to your room door before you set off on a one-hour journey through the highlands to a fascinating tour of Ngorongoro Crater.

Enjoy your gourmet packed lunch at a picnic spot on the crater floor. All food is freshly sourced from local communities and includes soups, salads, fruit and cheese boards, fresh cakes, biscuits and breads, roasts, grills, fine puddings and desserts. Special diets can be provided by prior arrangement via the AfricanMecca team.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner and sundowner cocktails can be taken in your suite, in the sumptuous dining room or even outdoors, in the bush, at specially selected viewpoints with campfires, bush bars, or bush-kitchens where skilled chefs can prepare anything from a full English breakfast to a mixed grill or a one-pot traditional African potjie, a tasty meat stew. These key Tanzanian travel specialties are supplemented, as appropriate, by desserts prepared in the restaurant kitchen.
