Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Olakira Migration Camp - Mara & Ndutu

Moving with the seasons to follow the annual migration of over a million wildebeest across the Serengeti, the Olakira Migration Camp is a traveler. Adventurers on their Serengeti trip to Olakira will be treated to front-row seats to witness what is often called the “Greatest Wildlife Show On Earth”. With its intimate under-canvas tents, you will experience the best that a Tanzania safari has to offer.

This Asilia camp will move around, and can be set up close to river crossings in the northern Mara part of the Serengeti to see the herds grazing, or be set up in the south, along the great Ndutu plains of the Serengeti ecosystem. Olakira, which means “shining star” in “Maa” – local Maasai tribe’s language, makes sure that guests will only have a superlative wilderness experience.

Like a vagabond that has no permanent residence just like the migrating wildebeests, the camp ensures authentic African experience for its guests yet maintaining all the comforts of deluxe luxuries and without being detrimental to the natural beauty of its surroundings. With the goal of leaving nothing except the footprints of it guests, the camp has temporary structures that can be brought down and moved two times a year. The dedicated staff will make sure that despite being a deluxe camp, Olakira will leave minimal impact on the environment. Any emission from the consumption of fossil fuel by the camp is offset through a program that calls for a community reforestation.

Accommodation At Olakira Migration Camp - Mara & Ndutu

The charm of a wildlife safari in Africa lies in the authentic designs and comfortable amenities that a camp has to offer. With only 9 tents at Olakira Migration Camp, privacy and personable service for each guest is guaranteed. King-sized beds covered in fine linen welcome AfricanMecca guests as they enter the tents. In the private, shaded tent veranda, a canvas chaise lounge can be seen amidst the plains of the Serengeti.

The veranda also gives you the opportunity to observe the herds, any predatory action and enjoy the view of the plains while in the comfort of your own private tents. Lanterns of Arabian origin add romance to the experience. You will want for nothing when it comes to convenience and comfort as each tent is fitted with en-suite bathrooms and flush toilets.

Minimal laundry services are also available for guests. There are battery charging facilities as well, with power sources coming from solar energy and a generator. Dedicated staff are always present to assist you, including wake-up calls, welcoming the sunrise with freshly brewed coffee and tea at your tent’s door step to planning your exciting day ahead.

From June to November, you can enjoy the Mara River sector in Northern Serengeti’s serene Bolongoja expanse as your Olakira home during your tour of Africa. The dramatic crossing of wildlife across the Mara River can sometimes be seen by guests from the camp by using visual aids, which are pitched just 300 meters from one of the crossing points.

The wide plains of Wogakuria and Lobo areas become the central assembly place of herds getting ready to cross the treacherous waters of the Mara on their return to the Southern plains. Populated by crocodiles and hippos, the abode is also home to plenty of biodiversity. After the wildebeest move on to the other side of the river, herbivores like gazelle, impala, zebra and topi either cross over too, remain resident or move onto other regions for greener pastures in search of mates, water and ground foliage. The strategic camp location of an Olakira safari during this time of the year ensures flora and fauna enjoyment and appreciation as well as a feeling of an open embracement with nature.

Come December to March, the camp will be situated in the South. Olakira will call Ndutu in the southern part of Serengeti ecosystem its home. It is the perfect place to graze, calve and rest. The grasslands of Ndutu will be the backdrop to the show where cheetahs, lions and other canines follow the herds and partake of the food that nature has to offer.

Located inside the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area (NCCA) – part of the Serengeti ecosystem, the habitation allows the highly trained AfricanMecca safari guides to offer game drives within the NCCA as well as across the borders of the southern Serengeti National Park. And as what has been happening in the past millennia, the herd will once again claim stake of the land that will nourish them for months to come.

Safari At Olakira Migration Camp - Mara & Ndutu

The great migration of the wildebeest at Olakira can be best described as a story with two key parts: the impressive race of the herds as they cross the dangerous Mara River as they depart to or arrive from Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, and the extraordinary moments of grazing, resting and calving along the smooth grasslands in the south.

And because Olakira moves with the wildebeest, you are treated to front-row seats experiencing the showcase of the nomadic life that over a million hoofed gnus (wildebeests) live and partake on an annual basis. Game drives can be personalized to cater to each guest’s needs. Private 4x4 open sided or roof vehicles are optionally available on an upgrade.

The guides, experts at tracking the movement of the wildlife, will attempt to catch up with the progress of the herds and predatory interactions so you can see them up, close and personal. Olakira has the best views at both sites, and also offers one of the best locations for game drives because of its access to resident and migratory fauna of Serengeti. Twice a day, guests can experience for themselves the life in the wild through game drives.

Walking safaris are most desirable from December to March. During this time, the camp is inside the NCCA, and the top safari guides of Africa will lead AfricanMecca guests to an adventure of a lifetime. You may get close to large animals like giraffes, elephants, buffalos and even lions, but the main focus on the walk is to embrace the sight, smell and sound of smaller flora and fauna opportunities missed out during game drives.

During your safari walks with expert guides, you will be accompanied by the armed rangers of the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area. You can also enjoy bird watching during your walks and game drives, and even opt for a Serengeti balloon safari as an aerial wildlife experience during your Tanzania safari vacation. Guests who travel to Africa to see the best of what nature has to offer are in for an experience of a lifetime. Olakira Migration Camp will not only spectacle the “Greatest Wildlife Show on Earth” – the camp lets you be a part of it.

From the friendliest staff who cater to all your needs, to the luscious meals, to the option of a dedicated and encyclopedic safari guide and to the customized game drives and safari walks, this will surely make only the most beautiful memories of your highly personalized Serengeti safari tour with AfricanMecca.
