GUIDE ON UBUNTU MIGRATION CAMP (ASILIA AFRICA) IN SERENGETI

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Ubuntu Migration Camp

Ubuntu Migration Camp is a portable, seasonal camp that moves around the Serengeti National Park to capture the seasonal flow of the Great Wildebeest Migration. AfricanMecca guests on an African wildlife safari are treated to a continual view of the amazing migratory hoofed herbivores that inhabit and traverse the magnificent Serengeti. Ubuntu Migration Camp tracks two waves of natural wildebeest movement, from the northern Serengeti to Kusini's southern Serengeti.

Every year our safari guides track, watch the fascinating and extraordinary cycle of life of the wildebeest and zebra herds, and share insights with AfricanMecca guests enjoying their safari vacation in Tanzania. The word Ubuntu refers to the generosity and hospitality towards others in the community, and it aptly describes the warm, intimate nature of this Asilia camp itself and the close-knit team of Tanzanian hosts who offer fabulous food, warm hospitality, and a relaxed environment.

Although the camp is a traditional safari canvas camp for an authentic and wild safari adventure, Ubuntu also offers a balance of comfort and deluxe luxury to the bush experience. Ubuntu Migration Camp also aspires to leave nothing but footprints. Solar energy powers the camp, tent structures have no permanent components, and each seasonal breakdown leaves the site in the same pristine condition in which it was found, with the exception of footpaths which are quickly reclaimed into the hardy bushland.

Accommodation At Ubuntu Migration Camp

Ubuntu Migration Camp is comprised of eight tents with dual lounge/dining areas that use a traditional under-canvas design to balance safari authenticity with comfort. Each tent is either a double or twin (triples offered). En-suite bathrooms have flush toilets and safari bucket showers. You can relax and enjoy a drink while you look out onto the plains from the open communal area. Battery charging facilities, lock boxes, and laundry service is also available.

Ubuntu Mara in the North (July-October):
The rich biodiversity of the Northern Serengeti is home to Ubuntu Migration Camp from late July to October. During your game drives with AfricanMecca guides, you can observe the dramatic Mara River crossings through waters populated by tanned hippos and fierce crocodiles. Plains of the Northern Serengeti are filled with large herds all year, with lions and cheetahs always vigilant and lurking in the grasslands. Not only will you encounter elephant and leopard in the lush greenery alongside the Mara River on your Tanzania tour, but the area is also alive with more than 500 bird species.

Ubuntu Ndutu in the South (December-March):
By December, the herds answer the migratory call they have followed for millennia, and head south to the unending Kusini grasslands of the Southern Serengeti. Although the natural goal is to rest, graze and calve, they are closely followed by lion, cheetah and other canine predators. Ubuntu Migration Camp follows as well. During November, the camp is closed to visitors while it is dismantled and moved south.

Safari At Ubuntu Migration Camp

Ubuntu is a safari camp that aims to provide a wild and natural Africa travel experience that is not lacking in comfort and luxury. The game viewing is fantastic at all times, with AfricanMecca guests often able to observe wildebeest, zebras and giraffes from their tents. Our experienced and personable guides are knowledgeable experts who will share with you the wonders of the finest predator game-viewing areas of the Serengeti and the Greatest Wildebeest Migration ever.

The main Ubuntu Migration Camp safari activity is the twice-a-day wildlife viewing and bird watching game drives, and AfricanMecca can arrange full-day or part-day excursions into the bush. Walking safaris in Tanzania allow you to get up close to elephant, giraffe, buffalo or even lions, safely accompanied by experienced guides and armed national park rangers – available only in Southern Serengeti – Kusini area. Also, available in the south is the fly-camp - another option for more adventurous Africa holidays, providing you an exclusive and private lightweight camp away from the main camp.

No matter which season you choose to visit the Ubuntu Migration Camp on your Tanzania safari, you will enjoy an unforgettable close and personal experience with the Serengeti and its inhabitants. Prior to heading to Serengeti, you can also stop over for a couple of nights at Ngorongoro Crater to see the most stunning ecosystem and view in the world. This is where the black rhinos are highly protected. And see a variety of migratory birds like the storks and the flamingos.

Aside from game drives, you can experience the spectacular balloon safari in Tanzania for a bird’s eye view of the majestic Serengeti – available only in the southern & western sector. African has so much to offer that you cannot do her justice with just one safari trip, and you will find yourself drawn to her again and again.

Dining At Ubuntu Migration Camp

The canvas dining room provides a typical, yet unique, bush experience on your Serengeti tour with AfricanMecca. At daybreak, your guide arrives at the communal mess tent to discuss the day's Africa safari plans over morning tea, coffee, and biscuits. Take an early morning open or pop-up roofed 4X4 safari run with a packed breakfast or enjoy breakfast upon return to camp, with choices that include fruit and cheese platters and hot "English" breakfast dishes.

Lunch and afternoon tea are also opportunities to meet with your guide to plan your African tour activities in Serengeti for the rest of the day. Dinner at the camp is an elegant affair in the open and airy dining area, with meal offerings that include both European and local cuisine. A wide variety of meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, salads, and desserts are available, sourced from communities surrounding the reserve.

The finest Tanzanian fresh-brewed Arabica coffee and local chai (tea) are always available, along with a well-stocked wine list, beers, spirits, soft drinks and fresh fruit juices. Bush dining experiences are available, with meals prepared and cooked on-site. Your early evening sundowner is a prodigious opportunity to spot wildlife and predators at water sources while they get ready to settle for the night. Camp sundowner cocktails are traditionally served around a campfire, often followed by a 'bush dinner' by lamplight.
