Nestled in a woody area, within a bend of the Mara River in the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve, the Governor's Camp is a deluxe accommodation for discerning AfricanMecca guests traveling in the wilds of south-western Kenya.



While no two migrations are ever the same, from your vantage post over the river, you could be a privileged viewer of the Great Migration as it crosses the river on its journey onwards. Watch as the teeming herds of wildebeest and zebras hesitate and then plunge head on into the chocolate brown waters of the river, heedless of the crocodiles lying in wait for them.

Spend time in the lounge, bar and dining sections of Governor’s Camp that are all open under a canvas top so you can enjoy the rich ambience of the wilderness all around you while on your authentic safari vacation in Africa. They also have a viewing deck overlooking the river from where you can watch the crocodiles sunning themselves on the sandbanks and hippos cooling in the river water.



From time to time, a pair of eyes, ears and snout appears to regard you carefully. While you could have your meals in the dining tent, the camp also arranges for al-fresco meals on the lawns where a warthog or mongoose might visit you to see if it can share your bread. Enjoy tasty buffet meals complemented with vegetarian dishes and desserts with perhaps a couple of elephants grazing not too far away.

Governor’s has a selection of 25 tents and while about half of them face the expansive plains and sited amidst lush greenery facing the Mara savannah, the others are riverside tents offering curly views of the river. Some of the rooms come with a double bed while others have twin queen size beds. If you prefer an accommodation with views of a marshy waterhole, we recommend staying at their sister property, Little Governors Camp.



A few of the tents are suitable for families with younger children touring Masai Mara Game Reserve since they have a double bed and two single beds in an adjoining larger tent divided by zipper and canvas flap. You can also request for a tent that has a ramp access for wheelchair use. The tents are all erected on flat surfaces covered with a tarp and African themed rugs as classic decor.

They each include a rack for your luggage and comfortable safari chairs on the wide patio outside for relaxation. The en-suite bathrooms are at the rear and come with a shower area and quality toiletries for your use. Honeymooners or anniversary guests looking for a more spacious living area when romantically holidaying in Kenya can opt for the Justus Suite sited in a secluded part of the camp along the Mara River.



The suite has a dresser with an IL-Moran style bed supplemented with his-and her wash basins and a standalone bathtub. While your stay at the Governor’s Camp is an adventure by itself, go on game drives to view the Big Five of Africa and many other mammals and more than 450 species of birds.

Ride in custom-built safari vehicles while your experienced guide on board awes you with his knowledge of the wildlife and their behaviors. Explore the flora, insect life, reptiles and amphibians of Masai Mara more closely with safari bush walks and go on balloon rides for a bird’s eye perspective of the glorious landscape spread below you.
