GUIDE ON MARA SERENA SAFARI LODGE IN KENYA
The unimaginably vast Masai Mara spreads before you with the hippo filled Mara River snaking through it. And as you watch, perhaps a herd of elephants or buffaloes might visit the watering hole below you for a drink. Perched on an escarpment, the Mara Serena Safari Lodge is the superlative lookout point for guests bush vacationing in Kenya, hoping to view the Great Migration as it flows across the Mara Triangle plains in numbers reaching above 1.5 million. A mid-range accommodation by AfricanMecca tier standards, Mara Serena has a very distinct architecture and ambience augmented with the warm spirit of the Maasai tribe and housing, both reflected in every nuance of its ovalish pod structures and warm contrasting colors painted to include tribal patterns, decor and designs. You will be staying in one of the 74 manyatta pods for the duration of your dream trip in these plains of East Africa. Located in individual structures, the pods are lined up on either side of the lounge and dining area, each offering unobstructed views of the landscape through sliding glass doors that lead out to your private verandah. Though, you might want to watch for the baboons and dwarf mongooses that might visit your room if the doors are open. The rooms have either a comfortable king size bed or twin queen size beds with mosquito netting but can accommodate a child's bed or crib on your request. Telephone, Wi-Fi and laundry services are available, and the en-suite bathroom comes with a curtained-off shower area, shaver outlet and Serena branded toiletries. You can request for a hair dryer and safe service for your valuables at the reception. Mara Serena Lodge is well suited for larger groups and families traveling in Masai Mara National Reserve with offers of eight units of two interlinked rooms, each with a separate bathroom. They also have a spacious suite that includes a bedroom, private sitting area, mini bar, valet services and flat-screen television with satellite connection. The bathroom includes a bathtub, shower enclosure and twin vanity basins. Enjoy views of the plains, distant river and rock-lined swimming pool as you have your meals in the lodge’s dining area or on the terrace outside. The wholesome hot breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style while dinners have table d'hôte menus sometimes with a different theme each night or buffet when its house full with over 150 diners. Vegetarian dishes and a separate kids’ menu is available, and the lodge welcomes special dietary requests. Mara Serena can also arrange private outdoor meals so you can experience the delight of bush dining on your Kenya culinary tour. While the lodge has select activities for kids nature-holidaying in Africa with their families, they will also enjoy the game drives you take them on. Introduce them to the incredible beauty of nature and wildlife as you drive along in custom-fitted safari vehicles. You will be enthralled by the in-depth information you will receive from your experienced AfricanMecca guide about the fauna and their habitats. Go on nature walks for a closer look at the flora of Masai Mara, smaller fauna and its insect life, so vital to the balance of the ecosystem. Or take a balloon safari for an all-encompassing view of the Mara landscape with its buzzing terrestrial activity underneath. Also, stop by at the local Masai village for an enlightening experience into their culture. End your day with sundowner drinks in the bush or around a campfire back at the lodge or a relaxing massage at the Maisha Safari Spa and Gym.
