Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Bologonya Under Canvas

When it comes to traveling in Africa, there is a simple rule: There are as many "Africas" to explore as lifetimes to do it in. If one lifetime is  all you expect to have, no wildlife tour in East Africa is complete without a safari to Tanzania and more precisely, Serengeti National Park, where vast plains host the annual migration of the largest herds of wild game on the planet.

If you follow your heart’s desire for bush travel, Bologonya Under Canvas offers a remarkably special and cherished experience for guests who desire a mid-range tented accommodation that changes its northern Serengeti location three times a year. The wildebeest migration is the focal point, supplemented with a unique balance of material comfort and a taste of the outdoors on the "plains without end." The camp offers splendid service, first-class guides and a nice touch of privacy and intimacy. Guests of AfricanMecca Safaris enjoy front-row seats to the Great Wildebeest Migration from July to October, timing that coincides with the Mara River crossing, a spectacle among spectacles. At other times of the year, the location offers an abundance of experiences with the resident fauna.

Accommodation At Bologonya Under Canvas

A special dimension of Bologonya Under Canvas in northern Serengeti, previously known as Simiyu Exclusive Mobile Camp, is its ten spacious and tastefully decorated traditional safari canvas tents, each furnished with a king-size double bed or twin beds, a private en suite bathroom with a flush toilet, bucket shower, and a wash basin. One family tent is available. Lighting is solar-powered. The common area includes a lounge tent for relaxing and socializing with other guests. There is also a small but well-chosen library, should one wish to sit and read leisurely, with the enchanting perspective of the Serengeti plains. The atmosphere of Bologonya Under Canvas is a combination of yesteryear safari accommodation and more modern comfort, with an authentic experience of living in the bush.

Safari At Bologonya Under Canvas

Bologonya Under Canvas is a choice location from which to view the living spectacle of a million wildebeest on migration, riding the wave of the green grassland ahead of them, accompanied by hordes of other herbivores, such as zebra and diverse species of antelopes, some resident and some short-term migrants, large and small. Predators abound following in their wake, from lion to cheetah to hyena. The primary safari activities in Serengeti for your nature-centric holiday will be morning and afternoon game drives on the plains of Tanzania. We use 4X4 safari vehicles, each with a select, first-class AfricanMecca guide, radio linked as part of a team with the other guides so that they can instantly share tracking intelligence (sounds, earth prints and last sightings) to maximize your wildlife sightings.

Every day is one of endless possibilities and variations: a lioness matriarch, lipsticked with blood, supervising her sister lionesses and cubs feasting on the kill of the night before; a cheetah in hot pursuit of an antelope; the irascible rhinoceros; far-ranging and intelligent African elephants; elusive leopards; countless species of avi-fauna, including vultures, eagles, storks — and the heaviest, the flightless ostrich. Your guide to the plains of East Africa will assure you see the best there is to see, wherever you may be and however you imagine your ideal vacation adventure. In addition to game drives, AfricanMecca Safaris can arrange another unique activity: hot-air ballooning over Serengeti National Park, an experience that will surely be a highlight of your once-in-a-lifetime trip. Guests fly noiselessly over the plain, unobtrusively sighting a wide range of game below. Should you choose, you can opt for a nature stroll with your AfricanMecca guide to discover the smaller living things you might not otherwise notice in the environs of the camp.

Dining At Bologonya Under Canvas

For dining, there is a large, fully appointed mess tent. Outdoor dining areas around a campfire are also available. Staff are happy to arrange picnics by request for those wishing to enjoy even more of the outdoors, and in some areas private bush breakfasts can also be arranged, as well as sundowner cocktails.

Meals are a memorable part of your wilderness trip at Bologonya Under Canvas. Coffee and tea are served as you welcome the dawn over the Serengeti National Park. After your morning wildlife-spotting foray, you may choose to return to camp for a substantial breakfast at table — including the option of a full English breakfast — with a copious choice of fruits, cheese, eggs, oats, waffles, and so forth. For those who wish to remain longer in the bush, an abundant packed breakfast can be provided. At midday comes lunch, and later in the afternoon a substantial tea. With sunset comes a sundowner drink in the African bush, ending with your return to camp for a full dinner at your communal table.

Diverse menus each day can include a wide variety of local fare prepared by highly skilled staff — beef, chicken, fish, soup, stews, rice, cheese, salad, desserts, biscuits, and much else. Vegetarian and specific dietary meals are an option with prior notice. There is the ever-present and very fine Tanzanian coffee and tea, as well as a wide choice of imported wine, remarkably good African beer, and a long list of spirits. By request, a full private dinner in the bush can be arranged with a table with safari chairs set up for you, and a meal cooked and served on site by skilled and friendly staff, some of whom are from the local Maasai tribe.
