If the Great Migration of over 1.5 million wildebeests and thousands of zebras is your idea of a perfect safari itinerary, the northern area of the Serengeti National Park is the place to be! This is where one of the most enthralling events of the migration unfolds – the crossing of the crocodile-infested waters of the great Mara River, and Aurari Camp, part of Kantabile Afrika portfolio, keeps you close to all the action during it game driving activities. This deluxe accommodation is designed with a combination of comfort opulence, intimacy with nature and convenience.

Accommodation At Aurari Camp

Limited to only 8 luxurious tents, Aurari Camp guests who value a balance of quality and quantity enjoy personal attention and service that is unmatched at larger mid-range accommodations in the area. Each 50-square meter guest tent has an elongated design that is parallel to expansive views of the savannah plains framed by the curvy slopes of the distant hills to create a picturesque setting in Tanzania that makes you feel utterly immersed in a wilderness holiday experience. The center of the tent features a roomy sleeping area that can be set up with a king bed or two spacious twin beds. The sleeping area is flanked by a private sitting area with sofa, chairs and a writing desk, and the ensuite bathroom on the left side of the tent.

Three large openings at the front of the tent allow you to have unfettered views from any interior space, and the canvas can be closed for privacy as you desire. No detail has been missed to provide a relaxed and pleasant vacation, such as exquisite linens and towels, cozy bathrobes and slippers, charging points, communication radios, creamy soaps and other toiletries made of natural East African ingredients and camp stationery. The design features splashes of gold and amber, as well as elements of local art represented by handmade textiles, beadwork and furniture.

Safari At Aurari Camp

Shortly after filling your belly with fresh fruit, cereals and other morning fare, your guide takes you out into the Serengeti bush to seek out animals large and small that are just starting to awaken after a night’s rest. You may come upon a delightful young elephant bull chasing birds or playfully studying a stick, as well as lions feasting on the remnants of the night’s kill. Your AfricanMecca assigned guide takes you to a superb vantage spot to await the thrill of the Mara River migration crossing. The wildebeests are stammering at the edge of massive embankments, eyes wide, and you find yourself choosing a favorite to encourage along the journey.

The first animal plunges down the bank and into the waters, and the story unfolds very quickly. You suddenly realize that you are witnessing what has been revealed in countless African nature documentaries (Discovery, National Geographic & BBC), and your heart pounds at the thrill of your dream safari trip in Tanzania becoming an amazing reality. While the Mara River crossing and other events that you see during game drives offer exhilarating travel adventures, the contrast of a more tranquil perspective of Serengeti viewed from a hot air balloon.

Dining At Aurari Camp

The camp features a central mess tent with lounge bar and dining area where the chef serves up tasty dishes that are prepared with fresh ingredients that are sourced from local communities. The menu highlights Swahili and international cuisines. As the sun rises over the gorgeous Serengeti plains, your personal attendant arrives with coffee and tea to enjoy in your tent or private verandah whilst you quietly envision the exciting tour activities that are planned for the day. Lunch is served in the bush as part of your morning game drive, and a three-course dinner awaits at camp after your afternoon outing.

What We Like About Aurari Camp

  1. Aurari Camp is a mid-range deluxe accommodation that offers guests a luxurious balance between quality and quantity
  2. With only 8 tents sizing 50 square meters, the staff at the camp are fab and tend to guest needs promptly and warmly
  3. The tents have impeccable plains views of the surrounding flora and traversing fauna
  4. The camp is solar-powered with a focus on sustainable tourism
  5. Aurari offers a family tent with a pull-out queen bed, and ideal camp for parents traveling with younger children

Things To Note When Staying At Aurari Camp

  1. The location of Aurari Camp is not riverside, and requires driving to the Mara River to view the seasonal wildebeest migration at the crossing points
  2. With 8 tents, rooms do get booked up 8 to 10 months ahead during the migration season. We recommend you book Aurari early in the peak season
  3. Aurari Camp is a permanent camp in northern Serengeti, and does not move - not mobile. It is not an ideal camp to stay at when the migration is not present e.g. during the calving season in south Serengeti
  4. The camp primarily offers day game drives — this may not be ideal for guests who desire camps that offers walking safaris
  5. Aurari features a contemporary design and aesthetics that may not meet the desires of guests who prefer more authentic, yesteryear traditional tented accommodations

When staying at Aurari Camp in Northern Serengeti (Mara River Wilderness), we recommend combining it with your Northern Tanzania safari to Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. End your trip with a Swahili cultural tour and beach holiday in Zanzibar.

You may optionally extend out to offbeat parks in Southern and Western Tanzania such as Selous, Ruaha or Katavi ending with a chimpanzee trekking safari at Gombe or Mahale by the relaxing Lake Tanganyika.
