Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Asanja Moru

The Moru central section in the heart of the Serengeti National Park is one of the offbeat bush holiday destinations for AfricanMecca guests. The region is home to an abundance of resident species, from massive elephants to ravenous lions, charming antelope, playful primates and so much more. Twice a year, the landscape is awakened with an unparalleled energy that signifies the arrival of the Serengeti migration. In April and May, thundering herds of over 1.5 million wildebeests and thousands of zebras stampede across the open grasslands on the way west. In December and January, the herds once again come into central Serengeti, this time to travel to their calving grounds in the south.

As you plan your deluxe safari in Tanzania, we invite you to learn about Asanja Moru, an intimate, small mid-range accommodation close to Moru Kopjes. The camp offers ample activities, good food, lovely staff and easy access to prime viewing points for the Big 5, migration, birdwatching and so much more.

Accommodation At Asanja Moru

The eight tents at Asanja Moru ensure that our vacationing guests enjoy privacy and immersion in the African wilderness travels. Each tent features plank wood floors with woven fiber rugs in all the key places, such as at the foot of the bed. In one corner is a carved writing desk with stool where you can journal about your day’s adventures touring around Serengeti National Park. Opposite the desk is an upholstered lounging chair where you can curl up with a good book or take a little siesta in between activities. Most of the interior is dedicated to the comfortable bed, with its log headboard, white linens and accents of Maasai red in the throw pillows and blankets.

The bed is flanked by log nightstands with lamps and Maasai figures. A small chest at the end of the bed is a great place to store small items. The remainder of the tent is where you will find the en suite bathroom, with a simple stand-style vanity, dual wash basins and water jugs and mirror. A flush toilet and bucket shower complete the space. The wood plank design extends outside the tent to form a private shaded verandah, where you can relax in safari chairs with a lovely glass of wine sitting on the carved table next to you. These outdoor spaces are perfect for early morning tea, coffee and hot chocolate, as well as sipping wine in the evening while searching for game on the plains just beyond the property. The property includes a central dining and lounge tent with sitting areas, tables, stocked bar and more.

Safari At Asanja Moru

At Asanja Moru, the exploratory travel options are almost endless, as you can view central Serengeti from the sky, aboard a 4x4 vehicle, on foot, or through the eyes of native peoples, both past and present. Game drives are offered twice each day, and the morning and afternoon scheduling coincides with distinct animal behaviors. You can even soar high above the plains in a hot-air balloon or take a guided walk around the camp to learn about the smaller denizens and flora of the Serengeti ecosystem.

Fly camping is a unique addition to any bush trip, and these excursions take you into some of the most isolated areas of Tanzania. We also encourage you combine your safari with Ngorongoro Crater alongside the Maasai and go birdwatching in Lake Manyara and Tarangire with an expert in avi-fauna. The Maasai people are an integral part of the landscape, and a cultural tour lets you learn about their traditions directly from the tribe members. You may even be invited to participate in craft-making and other activities in the village.

Dining At Asanja Moru

The camp chef at Asanja Moru takes pride in preparing meals that take guests on a gastronomic tour of flavors that are influenced by local and international ingredients, and you will be pleasantly surprised at what culinary creations are found deep in the bush country of East Africa. Breakfast may include a selection of fresh fruits, as well as eggs, toast, cereal, juices and other options, accompanied by the finest Tanzanian teas and coffee. You can opt for breakfast in the bush as part of your morning game drive activity in Serengeti, as well as a lunchtime picnic. A hot midday meal is also prepared at camp. As part of your afternoon game drive, the guide takes you to a spectacular location for cocktails and sunset views, or all of this can also be experienced back at camp sitting around the fire with other guests.

What We Like About Asanja Moru

  1. The staff at the camp are warm and friendly, and consistently delivers good service.
  2. The camp offers excellent privacy thanks to its setup near a Moru area hillside away from the more popular wilderness areas of Seronera.
  3. Small and intimate camp with only 7 double/twin tents and 1 family tent. The beds are very comfortable and tents are spacious.
  4. Dietary preferences and special meal requests are addressed with ease and pleasure.
  5. This mid-range camp is sited in an amazing location. Wildlife traverse through the campsite.

Things To Note When Staying At Asanja Moru

  1. Asanja Moru camp is 40 minutes from the Seronera Airstrip. Provides basic massage services.
  2. We recommend staying for two nights and combine it with another area of the Serengeti - subject to the location of the migration. The primary activity Asanja Moru is game drives.
  3. The camp has only eight tents and fills quickly during peak season — we recommend booking the property at least 12 to 18 months in advance.
  4. The inter-connected family tent is large, and offers two separate rooming areas and bathrooms.
  5. Not an eco-camp when it comes to sustainable energy. The camp is primarily run by generator, and electricity is available at certain hours only - mornings and evenings. Bucket shower is available - water is preheated for you at your requested time.
