GUIDE ON VOYAGER ZIWANI SAFARI CAMP IN KENYA
Voyager Ziwani Safari Camp has an air of history about it, having been the base of a German garrison in World War 1. Sited amidst a private sanctuary on the secluded end of Tsavo West National Park, the camp is an economy accommodation on the banks of the Sante River. Mount Kilimanjaro dominates the far horizon while terrapins and crocodiles keep you company from the river. A carpet of green grasses with an open dining area and bar, covered with thatch, adds to its ambience of its peaceful rusticity. It also has a pier leading out into the river where AfricanMecca lodgers touring the backwoods of Kenya can sit and watch the hippos frolicking in the water. The camp has a collection of 25 tents made of canvas and mesh under a shelter of woven thatched roofs that are supported by bamboo poles. 16 of these tents are erected on the southern edge of the river while the other 9 are on the northern bank. Some of the tents come with double beds or twins while others are more spacious and can accommodate up to three family guests traveling in Tsavo West Park. Each of the tents faces the river and has a private patio with safari furniture where you can watch the impalas grazing on the grass as you enjoy tea and cookies. The tents have rollback entrances, also with mesh window panels that let in the scents of the wilderness, daylight and serene sounds of the songs of birds. But if you like, you can drape them with canvas flaps for privacy. The tents also have a writing desk, open-closet for unpacking and are adorned with natural-tone, woven rugs. The attached bathroom at the back comes with a shower stall, hot water and bathrobes for your use. If you need a crib for the baby, please request for one prior to your arrival and it will be placed in your room. The camp also offers laundry services, and if you need to store valuables, the reception has a safe deposit box you can use.
Voyager Safari Camp serves you good, wholesome meals in their covered dining area or on the outside lawn, on the riverfront. They serve table d'hote cuisine and guests can also request for vegetarian meals. You could also have a bush breakfast and a barbecue dinner entertained with cultural shows by the Maasai as an add-on meal experience. If you should need to replenish travel consumable while on your dream vacation in East Africa, you can buy them at the camp’s boutique that also stocks souvenirs and handcrafted knick-knacks. The earnings from these sales support the local artisans of the region. On your exploratory trip in south-eastern Kenya, you will be able to understand the enchanting world of Tsavo's man-eater lions and lava flows. These lions have evolved shorter manes to deal with the heat of Tsavo while the Shetani solidified lava flows are a distinct spectacle to view. Tsavo West is also home to the Big Five of Africa, the lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino. The experienced, expert AfricanMecca guide aboard your custom-equipped safari vehicle will track, spot and also talk to you about the many ungulates of Tsavo like the wildebeest, waterbuck, zebras, giraffes, the rare fringe-eared oryx and many more (read more on when is the best time to travel to Tsavo West). You can also go on night drives in the private conservancy area of the camp or tour the Mzima Springs where you can view submerged hippos and crocodiles from an underwater glass chamber. However, your bush holiday in Tsavo West Park would be incomplete without a nature walk or a time spent at the local village to experience the true essence and cultural spirit of Kenya’s blessed diversity.
