GUIDE ON KILAGUNI SERENA SAFARI LODGE IN KENYA
Kilaguni Safari Lodge has the distinction of being the first accommodation to be established in Tsavo West National Park. With views of the distant Mount Kilimanjaro and Chyulu Hills, this mid-range lodge is built in a sprawling property of well-maintained gardens and lawns around watering holes. You can spend time on your wildlife holiday in Kenya with AfricanMecca watching buffaloes, elephants, gazelles, zebras and many more big and small animals as they visit to drink. Built almost entirely of stone with thatched roofs, the reception, lounge and bar has a decor that captures the essence of Africa. Sepia pictures grace the walls and volcanic rocks almost casually form a part of the decor. Carved animals enliven the place, as do colorful woven tapestries suspended from the ceilings. The lodge offers guests touring Africa, 51 Standard Rooms and 5 Suites. The rooms face the watering hole or the Chyulu Hills and are located in multi-room cottages and two-story buildings. Stone and thatch add to the charm of the dwelling that comes with either twin beds or double beds protected with mosquito netting and cooled with ceiling fans. Interconnecting rooms and third beds can be provided. Phone and Wi-Fi services are also available. The attached bathroom includes double basins and distinct shower area with a shaver socket, hairdryer, quality toiletries, bathrobes and slippers for your use. The patio and balcony outside your room allows you stunning views of the landscape and is furnished with light safari furniture for your relaxation. The Kilaguni Suites are located in a separate building and are spacious with a living-room cum dining-area. The verandah outside the suite also has a seating arrangement and the suites include all the amenities as provided in the Standard Rooms but also a minibar and the unnecessary satellite TV and video.
Mealtimes at Kilaguni Safari Lodge are stirring experiences because as you eat you can watch animals around the watering hole. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style and include a selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. Dinner is normally table d'hôte. The lodge also has theme nights when a different cuisine is served every night such as Pasta Night, Mongolian Night and Kenyan Night. You can also combine your meals with excursions during your game travels within Tsavo West Park. For instance, have breakfast at Lion Rock at the end of your morning game drive after spending time tracking and viewing the Big Five of Africa, the leopard, lion, elephant, rhino and buffalo, and many more. Go bird watching for some of the 600 birds’ species that Tsavo West is renowned for. If you like, you can have your midday meal in the bush after which a seasoned naturalist will accompany you so you can explore the sights, sounds, smell and sensations of Tsavo. Bush walks allow you to experience nature at close range. Learn to identify birds' nests, animal tracks and droppings, broken eggshells, different plants and their healing properties and so much more. Back at Kilaguni Lodge, spend an afternoon of relaxation on your Tsavo West trip in south-eastern Kenya or take a cooling swim in the pool before it is time for your afternoon drive. Once again, your custom-built safari vehicle with its expert AfricanMecca guide will be awaiting you. Your guide will share with you the secrets of Tsavo. You might also have the rare opportunity of watching a cheetah hunt in progress or even wild dogs and lions. Visit the Mzima Springs and its underwater viewing gallery or delight in the sheer beauty of Shetani lava flows. If you are arriving from Amboseli by road, we recommend you stop by a local Maasai village for a cultural experience, a must-do for an enlightened tribal vacation in East Africa. Have sundowner drinks in the bush or barbecue dinners around a campfire to end another unforgettable day in Tsavo.
