FAIRMONT NORFOLK HOTEL IN NAIROBI
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Fairmont Norfolk Hotel
Historically unwrapped in 1904, Fairmont The Norfolk is around 12 miles from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and less than two miles from the city center. Reminders of colonial-style design blend with modern interiors that provide a traditional ambience for your safari expedition in East Africa. Whether you are on personal or business travel in Nairobi, the Norfolk Hotel has varied room sizes and configurations that will meet all of your needs. Each of the 170 guest rooms and suites has air-conditioning, turndown service and local newspapers upon request, wireless internet, in-room telephone with voice mail, iron with its board, personal safe, mini bar, tea/coffee maker and 32" plasma television with satellite network. If you are visiting Nairobi on a family holiday with AfricanMecca, the hotel offers cribs, rollaway beds and connecting rooms. Guest rooms are available in four configurations -- Fairmont, Deluxe, Deluxe Veranda and Deluxe Courtyard. The Fairmont Rooms offer limited courtyard or fountain garden views, and the Deluxe Rooms have very restricted views of any exterior. A private veranda with views of the gardens is one of the highlights of the Deluxe Veranda Rooms, perfect for resident bird watching or relaxing with your morning coffee/tea and newspaper. For a subtle escape on the hotel grounds, the Deluxe Courtyard Rooms feature access to the hotel's garden courtyard. Fairmont Norfolk Hotel also offers suites and specialty rooms, including the Junior Suites with sitting areas, two-bedroom Duplex Suites with dining areas and garden views, eight historic 1937 Suites with courtyard views, nine themed Signature Suites and two Karura Suites that honor the hotel's founders. While the accommodation offers a unique yesteryear charm, it is also over a century old and has undergone a lot of refurbishments and uplifts under the current Fairmont management. Most of the rooms have been upgraded; however, few dwellings remain unsettled. Service levels are generally very good, but subtle inconsistencies can be experience during high occupancies considering the hotel caters to more than 300 guests. Your Fairmont culinary tour in Kenya may include dining at the hotel's Tatu Restaurant that features fresh coastal seafood and Morendat Platinum Beef served in a variety of satisfying dishes, such as Braised Beef, Crispy Shrimp, local Swahili specialty Samaki or Kuku Paka with Basmati rice and much more. The Lord Delamere Terrace offers buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner that features international cuisine from Kenya, India, Italy, Americas and the Mediterranean, and you may satisfy your appetite for food and the outdoors at the Tatu Patio, an excellent location for intimate dining. Light refreshments and drinks are available at the Swimming Pool Restaurant, although the location offers little privacy due to the surrounding high-rises that have cropped up. The Cin Cin Wine Bar maintains the definitive grace of the hotel's Victorian history and offers a very good selection of international wines and spirits. For business travelers, the hotel features 8 seminar and events rooms, and amenities that fit every guest's desire to relax and rejuvenate are a heated outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, sauna and steam room. When you choose to venture outside the hotel property, Fairmont Norfolk offers convenient independent access for a city tour of Nairobi but we always recommend booking an organized excursion via your AfricanMecca trip planner for a knowledgeable and also safe sightseeing experience of this dynamic urban ecology (read more on when is the best time to go to Nairobi for a Kenyan safari).
