GUIDE ON LAIKIPIA WILDERNESS CAMP IN KENYA
Wake each day on your wilderness Laikipia vacation with AfricanMecca to the magical sight of the sunrise on Mount Kenya, bathing the valley with the Ewaso Narok River close by you in a soft light. This is Laikipia Wilderness Camp, owned and operated by Steve and Annabelle Carey. A value camp, it is located on the side of an escarpment and is the perfect strategic location to view the untouched beauty of Laikipia with its acacia forests, rivulets bordered with copses of trees, gentle hills with stony crags and savannah grasslands. Laikipia Wilderness Camp focuses strongly on minimizing their impact on the delicate ecosystem where they are located. The electricity they use for lighting and charging batteries is sourced from solar panels and they accommodate guests traveling in Kenya in simple but comfortable tents that include all modest amenities. The reception, lounge-cum-reading room and dining areas are also made of canvas and have wooden open decks in front of them. The tents are furnished with wicker chairs and cushions for a relaxed, comfortable time chatting with your loved ones or simply enjoying a cool drink. The camp has 5 tents for guests, erected on a raised, flat stone deck. While some of the tents have twin beds, others have double beds and are capacious enough to accommodate one extra bed making them ideal for families vacationing in East Africa. The deck is wide and has seating space where you can spend time reveling in the tranquility of your surroundings. Two sides of the tent have netted windows and you can enter it through the front flaps that can be rolled back. The en-suite bathroom at the back of the safari accommodation is partly open at the top to classically shower underneath the African skies but accords full privacy. The camp makes hot and cold water available for your use.Laikipia Wilderness Camp serves your meals in their dining tent, but dinners are often served on the open deck around a campfire. They are also happy to set up romantic interludes for couples or budget honeymooners at mealtimes or arrange a close family dinner for you with your travel companions. The pristine wilderness you will be exploring on your tour of Laikipia on this zone is free of fences and wildlife roams like it has for eons before the advent of humans. As against other locations in the Africa where their numbers are depleting, the people of Laikipia are working hard to preserve them and their efforts are evident in the wildlife you see today. Go on game drives in custom safari vehicles with an expert guide on board and see animals like reticulated giraffes, hippos, Grevy's zebra, buffaloes, elephants and more herbivores. Among the predators present are striped and spotted hyenas, wild dogs, leopards, lions and more. By way of conservation programs for lions and wild dogs, radio collars are being fitted on them and with prior notice, you may have the rare opportunity in witnessing the research programs. Both day and night game drives are available at Laikipia Wilderness Camp. We can also arrange for you to take bush walks with an experienced botanist to guide you. The area is known for wide-ranging species of birds and you can go on special avian watching trips or fly camping for an yesteryear safari camping experience. Visit the Samburu villages close by and learn about their customs and traditions or alternatively go fishing in the river. These are only some of the varied adventure activities that will fill your dream holiday with AfricanMecca with a lifetime of memories.
