THE SANDS AT CHALE ISLAND IN MOMBASA

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For The Sands at Chale Island

The Sands at Chale Island, a deluxe 50-room accommodation, is located on a small island that is only 30 minutes from Diani. At less than one mile long and one-half mile wide, Chale Island is an isolated stretch of wide sand beach and mangrove forest surrounded by the gorgeous azure waters of the Indian Ocean, a secluded habitation in Kenya for a romantic honeymoon beach voyage south of Mombasa, unique family adventure or personal escape into a tropical paradise.

Room choices are Tower, Bandas, Penthouse Suites, Overwater Suites and Honeymoon Suite, and some rooms are dated, and do call for a luxurious rustic upgrade to keep up with it “island theme”. There are no televisions on the island – a perfect plasma detox, only yesteryear radios, but you will have access to free high-speed internet if you need to keep in touch with family and friends back home.

Some considerations in room location will affect your stay, such as the best Tower rooms being logically on the higher levels for an expansive view. For a comfortable beach vacation in Kenya with AfricanMecca, guests with limited mobility may prefer rooms close to reception, the swimming pool and restaurant.

To protect the habitat of resident fauna, such as monkey, baboon, bush baby, avifauna, small antelope, brightly-colored butterflies and many other creatures, the resort rigidly follows environmentally-friendly practices to ensure that every guest experiences a pristine island setting. Recycling is strongly encouraged and the electricity is shut off during the day.

Additionally, you will not have access to hot water or air conditioning – probably all cost cutting strategies! The accommodation is preferred by Italian tourists primarily so you would find less diversity of guests here from other nations.

For your dining convenience, The Sands at Chale Island has a restaurant and bar with good food though taste variations are a matter of personal preference here. The delightful evening entertainment provided by coastal snake tamers, Maasai dancers, acrobats and other performers is an enchanting way to end your day.

The resort staff actively arranges interesting beach touring excursions on the Indian Ocean, such as boat trips, snorkeling, nature walks on the island and much more, and you may even help with the private gardens that they maintain on the property. For your aquatic adventure trip of the surrounding beach waters of Mombasa, the hotel manages a fully-equipped water sports facility on the island, but the rocky coral reef around the island may create some challenges for simply swimming. Arrive with beach and swim footwear.

The hotel has two swimming pools, but should you prefer a refreshing swim in the ocean, remain alert for sea urchins and swim only in the early morning or evening due to the tides. The Sands at Chale Island is a relaxed beach travel experience in East Africa and should you need to relieve the stress of your international flight or high-pace safari, the hotel also features a spa with a variety of soothing treatments.

It is not cheap to stay here and the overall value the accommodation offers is additionally questionable; nonetheless, it is challenging to find an accommodation rival in the South Coast area that offers a true “idyllic island” experience. Funzi Keys on the sequestered island of Funzi would be one excellent rustic, luxurious exception that AfricanMecca highly recommends.
