The Lamu Palace Hotel is a Swiss owned hotel. Their focus is presenting guests on their coastal vacation in Lamu with accommodations that are non-frill, modest and unassuming while upholding Swahili architectural styles and ethnics. The isles of Lamu are a little corner on the east coast of Africa that time forgot. Visit Lamu today while travelling in coastal Kenya and you will be fascinated by its casual, laid-back ambience enhanced only by its awesome natural ocean, historical and cultural beauty. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, so designated to protect its ancient Swahili culture, its old town is a maze of little paths where shop owners sell you the parallel goods they have sold visitors over the centuries. Lamu and its sister islands have scenic beaches with untouched sands and marine riches unparalleled in resplendence (read more on when is the best time to travel to Lamu with AfricanMecca). The hotel has high columns supporting impressive arches and spacious courtyards giving you the impression that you are staying in a humble palace. A budget accommodation, the Lamu Palace Hotel offers very basic amenities, adequate food and variable service. Although the rooms are decently comfortable at the very minimum, you might find them a somewhat compact and the hotel could do with maintenance work and renewal of its aesthetics to keep up with modern times. The Lamu Palace faces the azure Indian Ocean and presents guests with expansive views of the ocean. Its 22 rooms have balconies and are furnished with handmade traditional furniture that has intricate Swahili-Arab designs carved into them. The rooms are air-conditioned but also have ceiling fans. Mosquito nets shelter the beds and the hotel offers Wi-Fi services. The suites include supplies for making tea and coffee, a little bar and TVs with satellite connection. You can also order meals in your room at any time of the day. The accommodation’s in-house restaurant serves you an interesting range of global and African cuisine. You may love their Italian pizzas cooked in an oven with firewood. Do also try their Japanese Tepanyaki. You can have your meals inside the restaurant or you could have an open-air meal on the terrace overlooking the ocean. The hotel lounge has a bar where you can order drinks, mix around with other guests and watch a bit of TV. If it's seafood you are looking for, you absolutely must try the distinct coastal dishes. They have decent choice of seafood cooked Swahili-style, and you will remember the exotic flavors long after you return home from your trip on the Indian Ocean. Visit the hotel’s massage center for some relaxation or take a walk to the fort museum. Remember, there are no cars or cabs for hire on the island but you could hire a donkey instead. Take a dhow ride to the neighboring islands for some sightseeing. You could book a fishing excursion or go on a snorkeling trip to explore the coral gardens at Kiunga Marine Reserve. AfricanMecca Safari could not have been more helpful through the entire process of planning our trip to Kenya. Our trip to Lamu (a suggestion by Raza) was incredible, and Kizingo is a perfect place to stay there. All in all, we had an amazing time in Kenya.

Lamu was fabulous. hot and sunny and we again were delighted with our accommodation. Everything was run smoothly and without any hitches and we are most grateful for a truly memorable holiday of a life time. You organised everything efficiently which made life so easy for us.
Angela Cook - London, United Kingdom
I had just the BEST time in Lamu - quite probably the holiday of my life - and am determined to go back in November. I have to say, the holiday was made by Altaf's dedication to what I needed - he worked very hard to ensure I got the full ten night stay at Kipungani, and I was impressed to say the least. Many thanks - I'll be back.

Raza, I have returned from the trip to Kenya you arranged. It went quite well and all of your advice about hotels etc was correct and prevented me from doing things less than optimal. I really enjoyed Lamu; it is one of the best beaches I have seen.
