LAMU HOUSE IN LAMU
Located on the captivating island of Lamu off the Kenyan coastline, Lamu House was once two Swahili homes that have now been transformed into a 10-room hotel for value-conscious coastal travelers on Lamu Island. Room sizes are single, double or suite, and all rooms are individually decorated to reflect the ocean lifestyle and traditional architecture of the local people. For your comfort and convenience, each room has a separate dressing area and full bathroom. Sea-facing rooms give you excellent views of the graceful dhows sailing on the Indian Ocean with Manda Island in the distance (read more on the best time to visit Lamu). Town-facing rooms tend to be quieter and allow you to watch the daily activities of your neighbors and alley traversers. Your Superior Suite at Lamu House features a separate living area, large en-suite bathroom with an inbuilt stone-tub and trio terraces. The rooms are comfortable and clean; property is well-maintained, and staff are friendly and courteous. When you choose a room for your seaside trip to Kenya with AfricanMecca, you should consider the location of the room on the property other than sea or city facing, as some rooms require you to climb several stairs. The eatery at Lamu House serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The latter two meals offer a good selection of dishes that incorporate fresh local seafood, meats, vegetable produce and fruits. Two of the popular options during your lunch and dinner are coconut samaki paka, prawn curry, and you can pair your meal with a quality wine from the bar. Expect abundance of fresh tropical fruits during your morning meal. For lunch and afternoon beach relaxation, head out to The Beach Club on Manda Island – part of Lamu House, offering a small and intimate seashore lounge. Stay and relax till the early evening at the Beach Club while sipping on a refreshing cocktail, lounging on a sun bed under a thatch umbrella and gazing at the clear the African blue skies are just some of the ways to enjoy your relaxed seashore holiday on the Indian Ocean. Lamu House has two dhows that are available for varied excursions, weather permitting, including private charter use or humbly for romantic dinners under the twinkling skies. Each dhow holds up to ten people, so this is the perfect outing for families and groups who want the experience of traditional sailing during their delightful beach tours of Lamu Island. Deep sea fishing, island hopping, waterskiing and snorkeling in Lamu are just some of the other activities that can be arranged. The town of Lamu is an intriguing place to explore with a guided walking tour, and the more adventurous traveler may prefer to discover the island on a donkey – the primary mode of land transport. For the ultimate coastal vacation in Africa, join in traditional festivals, witness a Swahili wedding and participate in other cultural-immersion activities. AfricanMecca also recommend that you take the time to visit Anidan Shelter House, a valuable humanitarian project that provides food and shelter to more than 200 orphans and other high-needs children.

AfricanMecca Safari could not have been more helpful through the entire process of planning our trip to Kenya. Our trip to Lamu (a suggestion by Raza) was incredible, and Kizingo is a perfect place to stay there. All in all, we had an amazing time in Kenya.

Lamu was fabulous. hot and sunny and we again were delighted with our accommodation. Everything was run smoothly and without any hitches and we are most grateful for a truly memorable holiday of a life time. You organised everything efficiently which made life so easy for us.

I had just the BEST time in Lamu - quite probably the holiday of my life - and am determined to go back in November. I have to say, the holiday was made by Altaf's dedication to what I needed - he worked very hard to ensure I got the full ten night stay at Kipungani, and I was impressed to say the least. Many thanks - I'll be back.
Jeremy King, Senior Producer GMTV - London, United Kingdom
Raza, I have returned from the trip to Kenya you arranged. It went quite well and all of your advice about hotels etc was correct and prevented me from doing things less than optimal. I really enjoyed Lamu; it is one of the best beaches I have seen.

Raza, I want to tell you that all aspects of our travel arrangements with you ran smoothly. Our visit to Lamu was most enjoyable and a pleasant contrast to the highlands. I will unreservedly recommend AfricanMecca to others.
