KIZINGO IN LAMU
Kizingo is a rustic mid-range accommodation that features 8 beach bandas built of locally sourced coconut palms, mangrove poles and star palm leaves. Situated on one end of the sandy stretch from Kizingo to antiquated village of Shela, this rural resort offers all of the peace and quiet you want for an outstanding beach holiday on Lamu Island with AfricanMecca. Your pitched-roof banda is quite large and includes a double bed canopied with mosquito netting, cozy chairs and en-suite bathroom with dressing area, single sink basin, flush toilet and shower with hot water. For your privacy from the open breeze thatch windows, bamboo screens are built-in, as well as a spacious verandah with seating and Lamu-style swing bed that gives you unfettered views of the ocean. You simply cannot imagine a more relaxed way to spend your coastal vacation in Kenya; however, do not arrive here to expect an aesthetically pleasant boutique hotel. This is not the place. Kizingo is only dependent on the free flow of natural air from the Indian Ocean surrounds. There are no electric fans or air-conditioning in your bandas. The bandas are built with adequate space in between each so that you do not need to worry about having beach neighbors that are too close, but there are also plenty of opportunities to mingle with other guests should you desire. Some of the bandas are situated further away from the dining area and bar, so you may have a bit of a walk for your meals and gatherings. Additionally, the walkways to these areas are not lit, making walking at night challenging, but this will definitely improve your polar direction skill, and because the bandas are close to the ocean, crabs are frequently found on your walking path, but rarely do these beach fauna intrude on guests or its chambers. The food is phenomenal! Breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea are included as part of your marvelous beach travel to Lamu Island’s Kizingo. The bounty of the Indian Ocean is the centerpiece of many meals, accompanied by breads freshly baked in a clay oven and locally sourced produce, and the kitchen can accommodate any special requests or dietary restrictions with prior notice. Your meals are served at set times in the dining area, but you can also dine in your banda. Each morning of your seaside beach trip in East Africa, you awaken to the sound of ocean waves and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or tea that is delivered to your room, and before your dinner, the Kizingo staff host a relaxed social hour of appetizers and cocktails, and this is a perfect opportunity to sample the selection of excellent wines from Italy, South Africa and Chile. Kizingo offers several exciting aquatic activities, such as deep sea fishing, ocean kayaking, dolphin swims and sunset sails on a traditional dhow. For land lovers, AfricanMecca Safaris recommends guided cycling rides to explore the island, as well as walking tours of local villages, Old Town Lamu and the beautiful natural setting of the island. Should you prefer to limit your exploratory beach tour on the Indian Ocean to the offerings at Kizingo, you may wish to have a soothing massage or shop at the boutique for souvenirs and incredible locally-crafted textiles. As part your Lamu beach tour in Kenya, we recommend combining your stay in between the old town of Lamu to experience the culture and history and then proceed to the idyllic beach at Kizingo for a few nights. AfricanMecca honeymooners love this combination experience of beach and culture.

AfricanMecca Safari could not have been more helpful through the entire process of planning our trip to Kenya. Our trip to Lamu (a suggestion by Raza) was incredible, and Kizingo is a perfect place to stay there. All in all, we had an amazing time in Kenya.

Lamu was fabulous. hot and sunny and we again were delighted with our accommodation. Everything was run smoothly and without any hitches and we are most grateful for a truly memorable holiday of a life time. You organised everything efficiently which made life so easy for us.
Angela Cook - London, United Kingdom
I had just the BEST time in Lamu - quite probably the holiday of my life - and am determined to go back in November. I have to say, the holiday was made by Altaf's dedication to what I needed - he worked very hard to ensure I got the full ten night stay at Kipungani, and I was impressed to say the least. Many thanks - I'll be back.
Jeremy King, Senior Producer GMTV - London, United Kingdom
Raza, I have returned from the trip to Kenya you arranged. It went quite well and all of your advice about hotels etc was correct and prevented me from doing things less than optimal. I really enjoyed Lamu; it is one of the best beaches I have seen.

Raza, I want to tell you that all aspects of our travel arrangements with you ran smoothly. Our visit to Lamu was most enjoyable and a pleasant contrast to the highlands. I will unreservedly recommend AfricanMecca to others.

Lamu Palace was really quite exotic, with again wonderful people, in great location, I felt like I was in the movie Casablanca. I will recommend your company to anyone I know travelling to Kenya. In deep appreciation...
