KIPUNGANI EXPLORER IN LAMU
Kipungani Explorer Has Been Closed Down Until Further NoticeKipungani Explorer offers you the ultimate experience of staying in a traditional Swahili village-like banda rooms on your rustic beach trip in Lamu. This mid-level, deluxe accommodation is set in a grove of palm trees, on the shore of the Indian Ocean, with a 600-meter length of seashore with pristine soft sands exclusively for the use of its guests. The bandas of Kipungani Explorer blend in with the surrounding, lush landscape so perfectly that they are almost indistinct from a distance. The resort is accessible by flight that lands at neighboring Manda Island. From here, you can take a 40 minute boat ride to the south-eastern corner of Lamu Island (view map). The beach lodge operates on eco-friendly values and is almost entirely built by the Kipungani Village artisans, using locally available natural materials. The floors of the bandas are covered with woven mkeka palms and the walls are also made with the same organic woven palms. Makuti thatch covers the bandas and all these materials serve to keep the interiors cool in the warm tropical weather. In keeping with the lodge name, Kipungani which means ‘abode of fresh air' in Swahili, all of its 13 bandas face the Indian Ocean allowing cool sea breeze to enter. The patios have Funzi Island day beds, swings and chairs softened with the multicolored kikoy throw pillows where you can lounge and enjoy the breathtaking scenery or simply peruse a book and revel in the serenity of your environs, just what you need on your relaxing beach vacation in East Africa. Mangrove and palm woods have been used for designing the queen- size beds and furniture, and you will be completely enchanted by the ingenuous charm of the rural beach bandas. The attached bathrooms have all the amenities you will need on your travel in coastal Kenya including freshwater showers, toilets that flush and a distinct dressing room with facilities for washing. Valet, laundry and internet services are available and safe deposit lockers are also included in the rooms. Since the hotel adopts eco-friendly principles, the generator is turned on for fixed hours during the day so you can recharge your electronics during these hours. Please feel free to use your hair dryers also during these times. The Kipungani Lodge includes all three daily and you can expect that the freshest of seafood meals, cooked with Swahili flavors will be served to you at their restaurant or other romantic locations around the accommodation. They also have a bar-cum-lounge where you can relax with drinks or you could take a dhow safari on “Zahra” and have sundowner drinks on board. Stopover at their rustic boutique for some discerning souvenirs or drop in at their massage banda for some relaxing me-time. You could go swimming with dolphins or snorkeling in one of the fabulous coral reefs at the distant Manda Toto and Kinyika. Take romantic walks on the beach and look out for the beautiful birds, resplendent in all their plumage. Visit the museum and fort in Lamu town for a peek into the past or take a shopping tour of the old Bazaar. Try your hand at windsurfing, kayaking and knee boarding. You could also take a barracuda-fishing trip from aboard a speedboat or the traditional dhow. AfricanMecca Safaris can combine your bush safari with a discerning Lamu beach holiday on the Indian Ocean for a laidback, sun-soaked time caressed by soft ocean breezes with powdery sands underfoot.

AfricanMecca Safari could not have been more helpful through the entire process of planning our trip to Kenya. Our trip to Lamu (a suggestion by Raza) was incredible, and Kizingo is a perfect place to stay there. All in all, we had an amazing time in Kenya.

Lamu was fabulous. hot and sunny and we again were delighted with our accommodation. Everything was run smoothly and without any hitches and we are most grateful for a truly memorable holiday of a life time. You organised everything efficiently which made life so easy for us.
Angela Cook - London, United Kingdom
I had just the BEST time in Lamu - quite probably the holiday of my life - and am determined to go back in November. I have to say, the holiday was made by Altaf's dedication to what I needed - he worked very hard to ensure I got the full ten night stay at Kipungani, and I was impressed to say the least. Many thanks - I'll be back.
Jeremy King, Senior Producer GMTV - London, United Kingdom
Raza, I have returned from the trip to Kenya you arranged. It went quite well and all of your advice about hotels etc was correct and prevented me from doing things less than optimal. I really enjoyed Lamu; it is one of the best beaches I have seen.

Raza, I want to tell you that all aspects of our travel arrangements with you ran smoothly. Our visit to Lamu was most enjoyable and a pleasant contrast to the highlands. I will unreservedly recommend AfricanMecca to others.
