GUIDE ON ESCARPMENT LUXURY LODGE IN TANZANIA

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Escarpment Luxury Lodge

Escarpment Luxury Lodge is a very pleasant, if somewhat rare place to stay on a tour to Tanzania. It sits high on an escarpment overlooking the Great African Rift Valley, and the small, but choice Manyara National Park with extensive vistas of the central lake that covers up to two-thirds of the total area of this 127 square mile microcosm, in which you can find miniatures of almost every terrain on the Northern Tanzania African safari circuit.

Here, gigantic tribes of elephant are a memorable feature. They were the basis of the first in-depth study of elephant behavior by Iain Douglas Hamilton in 1975. Amongst hundreds of bird species, flocks of thousands of pink flamingos are also an iconic feature of the shrinking salt lake and tree-climbing lions are similarly famous.

Not far away, the town of Mto-wa-Mbu is accessible. At the turn of the former century, this area was an ethnic no-man's acreage between belligerent Wambulu and Maasai but is now a multicultural center where representatives of Tanzania’s many indigenous tribes live in harmony and can be visited as part your Manyara cultural tour experience.

The lodge is small and intimate like the park itself, but the design is spacious and imaginative, and personnel are anxious to please, nurturing particular emotional efforts for honeymooners on safari and special occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays etc. Escarpment Luxury Lodge is a promising newcomer accommodation in the Manyara region.

Accommodation At Escarpment Luxury Lodge

First impressions of Escarpment Luxury Lodge are of richly stoned and timbered, stylish, chalet-style constructions set at varying levels amongst light woodland with an extensive pool and deck area making a dramatic focal point. There is a delightful communal area with restaurant, bar and lounge deck, and free Wi-Fi is also available. There are 16 very large, private chalets to house two or three guests (where else to stay in Lake Manyara National Park).

They are clean and charming, with wooden floors, king size or twin beds with mosquito nets, and picture windows with mosquito screening so that they can be left open at night. An en-suite bathroom with bath, vanity units, flush toilet, and indoor shower is supplemented by a fenced outdoor shower adjacent to a wide, private viewing deck. Quirky decor combines chandeliers with leather sofas and stunning ethnic artifacts, a combination only met on tour in Tanzania.

From the decking, the bed, and even from the bath, views of the gorge are stupendous, through lush woodland and Lake Manyara sparkling in the middle distance. The resident wildlife are an integral part of your African holiday at Escarpment. Servals, dik-diks and mongooses on or beneath the decks and birdsong in the surrounding bushes enliven your heart by day and by night.

On an Escarpment Luxury Lodge safari with AfricanMecca, you will find yourself in a beautiful and tranquil environment, suspended between cosmopolitan comfort, wilderness and authentic native African lifestyle. Tender Maasai cow alarm bells can be heard on the morning breeze waking you up to your morning hot drink, and haunting evening chants drift from nearby villages (view map of Lake Manyara).

Safari At Escarpment Luxury Lodge

Favorite activities for a trip to Manyara from Escarpment Luxury Lodge include cultural visits to the multifaceted town of Mto wa Mbu, cycle tours, guided walks and even a visit to a local school, but the most rewarding must be the game-viewing safari, conducted by a skilled AfricanMecca guide driving a 4WD vehicle, customized for the purpose with panoramic views, comfortable seating, on-board refreshments and 2-way radio communication with other local guides to share wildlife location acumen based on trails, echoes and last sightings of the most riveting action.

Full day tours set out in the early morning or half days in the late afternoon when the wildlife are on the move in the many different types of environment found within its dense square kilometers. Central Lake Manyara is the favored destination of bird-watchers on tour in Africa, enchanted by the regatta of unexpectedly graceful pelicans, like ships in full sail as they arch their snowy winds to counterbalance their heavy beaks, submerged in rich feeding waters.

One cannot fail to be delighted by the ballet chorus of rosy Greater and Lesser flamingos, or the beak-clattering storks, Cape-winged Black Heron and head-bobbing Glossy Ibis. In the priceless mahogany trees of the ground-water forests and in the light acacia woodlands, lion lie in ambush in the forks of trees, having learned to climb, perhaps to keep cool or to protect their prey from scavengers as leopards do.

Sometimes an entire pride is seen mostly beneath and a couple on top of the same tree (read more on best times to visit or travel to Lake Manyara). Everything adapts and changes when challenged. So will you.

Dining At Escarpment Luxury Lodge

Food at Escarpment Luxury Lodge is sumptuous and plentiful. As far as possible, ingredients are locally sourced from Mto-wa-Mbu and surrounding farms. There is a butler service to bring aromatic Tanzanian morning tea or coffee to your verandah, and every effort is made to meet your particular dietary requirements.

At breakfast, cooked eggs, croissant, waffles and toast extend the standard cold board of fruit, cheese and oats supplemented with five a day juices and vegetables. Lunch features a selection of hot and cold dishes: salads, roasts and vegetarian options; or you can opt for a packed picnic to take with you on a game-viewing tour of Manyara, which you can accomplish in a day, from the “Maji-Moto”, literally translated as “hot water” springs of the extreme South to the ground water forests and hippo wallows of the North.

For guests who start with lunch at the lodge, a siesta and a late afternoon safari precedes sundowners by a campfire, a Tanzanian vacation tradition on an AfricanMecca safari. A great range of beverages is available, from Old and New World wines, and spirits to cordials, soft drinks and herb tisanes.

After sunset, savor a silver service dinner in the restaurant or an outdoor barbecue with Maasai dancing and singing for ethnic entertainment. Bush dining, in selected beauty spots with grills, roasts and baked vegetables prepared in a bush kitchen, and soups, salads, and desserts imported from the lodge, give a taste of bygone African safari contrivances.
