MOUNT BISOKE HIKING & TREKKING TOUR IN VOLCANOES PARK WITH AFRICANMECCA

Mount Bisoke Trek Guide For Volcanoes Park

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Safari Prices, Reviews, Maps, Photos, Videos & Room Rate Guide For Volcanoes

Standing at 3711 meters, Mount Bisoke is possibly the most scaled peak in Volcanoes National Park. Although the hike up the mountain tests your physical fitness and stamina, the trek is well worth it thanks to the superb views of Lake Ngezi in the crater atop the volcanic peak. You will begin your travel at the park’s headquarters and pass through Bisate Village, with its picturesque potato farms. You can ask your tour consultant at AfricanMecca Safaris to arrange for a safari vehicle to drive you from Bisate Primary School to the base camp, the starting point of your trek; this can help avoid 50 to 60 minutes of extra walking to reach this point. At this stage, you also have the option of renting trekking clothing including raincoats, gumboots, and gloves, which are important for navigating this potentially muddy terrain. Those seeking assistance can request a porter to help carry any equipment along the way.

All hikers assemble at Kinigi after breakfast, at 7 a.m. You will be assigned an expert guide who will explain what to expect on the trails. Your trek should take about 6 to 7 hours to complete if you are not used to scaling mountains; of this time, 2 or 3 hours is spent returning to the base. More experienced of hikers may complete the trek in a total time of 4 or 5 hours. According to regulations, hikers must reach the summit by 2:00 p.m. You must turn back at that time, even if you have not made it to the top. As you ascend the mist-shrouded slopes, you will enjoy stunning vistas of the valley spread below you. Look out for tiny reptiles scurrying in the dense undergrowth, as well as some of the 178 bird species that Parc National des Volcans is famous for. The view of the lake from the top is immensely beautiful, and you can take all the pictures you want as mementos of your hiking holiday in Rwanda before it is time to descend.
