WHERE TO STAY IN SOUTHERN MASAI MARA
The camp is located in the private Olderkesi Conservancy with only one kilometer away from the reserve, so you need only drive a short while during your full day game drive into Masai Mara National Reserve. Cottars is sited within its own 6000-acre wilderness concession that is unfenced, so the boutique tents are set within a stunning ecosystem with free-roaming wildlife. Even more, the site of each 10 boutique tents enhances your privacy and isolation within the bush.
Enjoy breathtaking views from your private verandah, and at the end of your day, escape into a personal space that rejuvenates your mind, body and soul. The camp offers five double tents, four family suites and a one honeymooner tent, all with lavish en-suite bathrooms. One of the best features of a family tent is a private living area with fireplace. For those guests who want a top-notch private family house, we recommend the matchless Cottar’s Bush Villa. Also available is the premier, colonial themed Sand River Masai Mara Camp situated inside the southern expanse of the main reserve.
AfricanMecca Tier 1 premier recommendation – Sala’s Camp – is located at the confluence banks of the Keekerok River and Sand River in the main reserve. This is the prime entry and exit point during the wildebeest migration season from July to October. The 7 guest tents almost magically capture the gentle breezes to keep you cool and refreshed. Tent sizes include six double and twin tents, as well as one family tent.
All tents have ensuite bathrooms with washbasins, vanities, flush toilets and showers. Service levels are highly personalized due to a small numbers of tents that allow a maximum of sixteen guests to be lodging on a full occupancy day. The canvas mess tent is a long one that has a divided section with a lounge and an indoor dining area.
Enkewa Mara Camp is our Tier 3 recommendation for a value accommodation in the southern zone of Olderkesi wilderness with no traversal rights over the private 6000-acre concession that Cottar’s formed and manages. The camp uniquely offers our guests with 5 double or twin bush tents, all spread out, each with a modest en-suite bathroom and sitting area. The location of Enkewa is isolated as it is sited amidst surrounding hills at the foothill of the Kalema Mountain. Safari game drives are primarily done in the main reserve. The camp focuses on eco-friendly policies of housing solar panels for electricity, UV rays purified water, no permanent structure and vegetables are wholesomely sourced from their organic garden.
