GUIDE ON COTTAR'S 1920S CAMP IN KENYA
Located in a private concession bordering Masai Mara National Reserve is Cottar's 1920s Camp, a premium accommodation that offers 10 extravagant guest tents. The camp is situated in part of the 6000 acres Olderkesi Conservancy with no fence structures. The setting exceeds the expectations of even the most discerning guest who is seeking a luxurious, exclusive African safari experience. Each guest tent is superbly sited on the property to ensure the utmost seclusion and peacefulness, as well as breathtaking views from your private verandah. Inside you find a soothing color palette of crisp white, golden wood tones, ecru and taupe accented by splashes of jade green and chocolate brown. The en-suite bathroom features a rain shower, single-vessel vanity, towel racks, mirror and other special touches to make you feel at home. While many of our couple and solo guests are quite comfortable in one of the five double tents, the camp also offers four family suites that are excellent for parents that are traveling with two or three children, as well as close-knit friends who want to stay together. The benefit of the larger family tent is that it has a living area with fireplace. For your romantic Kenyan holiday with AfricanMecca, we recommend the honeymoon tent that welcomes you with rose petals on the bed. We advise our guests that while all guest tents offer stunning views, some family tents may be interrupted by pristine trees. We recommend that you disconnect and e-detox from the outside world during your bush travel in Masai Mara Reserve. Should you have communication needs, though, wireless internet is available in limited areas of the accommodation, and guests may use the satellite telephone for a supplemental fee. Cell phone service is not available in the camp but may be available approximately one kilometer from camp. Cottar's 1920s Camp not only gives you easy access to the public Masai Mara National Reserve from its private conservancy location, but the staff also provides you with discrete pampering and impeccable service during your remote trip in the Kenyan bush. As the sun rises above the East African horizon, the warm light blends with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and tea. From your bed look out across the landscape and envision the day ahead. Meet your expert guide to discuss the day’s plans before climbing aboard one of the custom-built safari vehicles. As you briefly introduce yourself to other guests, you start new friendships based on shared experiences of an adventurous photo tour in Masai Mara Game Reserve with AfricanMecca. Your guide skillfully takes you to vantage points with the greatest number and diversity of fauna, sharing ecological information, personal stories, historical facts, cultural anecdotes and much more. Should you visit the reserve from July to October, you should witness the spellbinding masses of wildebeests and zebras that arrive in the area from the adjoining Serengeti as part of the Great Migration. Return to your boutique camp for an appetizing breakfast before a quick siesta or perusal of the curio shop. After lunch, you may lounge by the pool, rejuvenate with a massage at the spa or read a bit of your favorite book. Afternoon tea is served before your late day activity of a game drive, guided bush walk, cultural visit, river dipping and fishing and much more. As the sun sets, order your favorite cocktail from the bar, and gather with other guests around the campfire. For dinner, you may join other safari vacationers in the dining tent or join your sweetie for an intimate, private dinner for two under the twinkling African skies. Next morning, you can partake an optional aerial safari on a 16 passenger balloon flight taking off before sunrise.
