ST. THOMAS MAWE BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN WATAMU
St. Thomas Mawe Boutique Hotel is a deluxe accommodation in northern Watamu, sitting on the edge of a coral stone cliff, looking out over the Indian Ocean. It is a scenic place to spend your seaside vacation in Kenya with the turquoise waters of the ocean beneath you, pretty gardens with tropical vegetation and little cottages with Swahili-styled thatched roofs. Note there is no beach here due to its location over a creek. On low tide, the floor of the ocean recedes with rocks on display. The decor is distinctively neo-ethnic with light wood furniture that adds an element of tranquility to your stay. You can opt to book one of their rooms or you could book the complete resort if you are travelling in East Africa with a larger group. Being Italian owned, the accommodation sometimes lacks diversity of guests from other nations. This charming resort has 12 rooms for AfricanMecca guests in two categories, eight Superior and four Deluxe. The rooms are all air-conditioned, have mosquito nets and include a mini bar and tea and coffee making arrangements. Wi-Fi services are available, and the hotel also provides a cell phone with a local chargeable number you can use. Use the room safe for stowing small valuables or the alarm clock to wake you up on time for your activities or catch the sunrise over the ocean. Housekeeping services are also provided and you can order meals in your room. TVs with satellite connections and DVD players also are placed in all the rooms. The attached bathrooms come with standard toiletries and hair dryers and also have bathrobes and slippers you can lounge in. The oceanfront Deluxe Rooms are more spacious than the Superior Rooms. They also have an exclusive patio with swinging day beds you can relax in. Some of the rooms can accommodate an added bed or a baby bed. In case you need an international adapter socket for your electronics, please request one. Have you meals in the hotel's restaurant with awesome views of the Indian Ocean. They offer you a palatable range of local and intercontinental cuisine with distinctive and fused flavors that will make every meal memorable. The resort also has a guest spa where you can enjoy some indulgence, or soak in their outdoor Jacuzzi with soft breezes wafting up from the ocean. There are an endless number of activities on which you can spend your time while on your beach tour on the Indian Ocean. Request AfricanMecca Safaris to make prior arrangements for diving and snorkeling trips in the breathtaking locales of the coral gardens (read more on when is the best time to go to Watamu). If you are a beginner, Watamu is an exceptional location to learn or enlighten yourself with marine-life because during low tide, the shallower areas of the reef are exposed. You can also walk on the powdery white sands or in the shallows to view exciting marine creatures. More experienced divers can dive in the deeper locations that are further out at sea. You could also go fishing or simply view the many colored denizens of the reefs through the glass bottoms of boats. Around Watamu, there are unique wildernesses where you can visit for bird and butterfly watching. Visit the Mida Creek or tour the Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve. You could also visit the Gede Ruins during your beach trip in Watamu for a day of adventure to a long gone era. If you have extra days to spare, combine it with big game safari to Tsavo or Masai Mara. Stay over at the St. Thomas Mawe Boutique Hotel for a relaxing Kenyan beach holiday.
