AL HAMRA IN WATAMU
At a distance of a mere 100 meters from the world-famous Turtle Beach, covering over four miles of powdery white sands and indigent tropical vegetation, Al Hamra is boutique resort on Watamu Bay in south eastern Kenya. It aptly takes its name from the old Omani town of Al Hamra that is known for its distinct building styles. This coastal luxurious residence combines elements of Arabian architecture with delicate filigree carvings and Swahili touches to create a romantic Arabian nights” ambience on your beach vacation in Watamu. Al Hamra is more like a luxury coastal villa than a beach-side hotel as it is not located right on the beach. You can book the entire premise for your family and friends for a fun-filled accessible seashore trip with AfricanMecca to this isolated region of Kenya. It can accommodate up to eight adults and two children. You can expect warm, personalized service, admirable amenities and delicious meals, cooked and served to perfection. Your special requests will be welcomed warmly and duly catered to. Internet and Wi-Fi services are also available, and you can make use of the accommodation’s cell phone. Al Hamra has an air-conditioned double bedroom on the ground floor with a king-size bed swathed in a mosquito net and hanging fan. The poolside Suites have exclusive covered terraces where you can relax and enjoy the refreshing breeze from the Indian Ocean. The swimming pool is a sea-water 12-meter expanse and you can soak in it for the therapeutic benefits of a salt-water swim bath. The ground floor also houses the hotel’s fully equipped kitchen and the in-house chef and butler will manage it for you. The first floor of Al Hamra houses the reception, lounge and dining area and has a plunge pool for your use. You can sunbathe in loungers around the pool that is underneath a shaded area, ideal to dip in during warm afternoons. The Master Suite of Al Hamra is located on the top floor. It includes a king size bed with a separate shower room and dressing area. Though it includes a ceiling fan, but bizarrely, it is not air-conditioned. The top floor also has open terraces with woven roofs and sunbeds with netting that is ideal for napping in the warm sun with a stunning indigenous view of its environs (read more on where else to stay in Watamu). Pamper yourself on your coastal tour in East Africa with in-house massage session or request for a yoga or Pilates session with personal trainers. You could also take walks on the nearby accessible beach where you may get lucky to see turtles hatching out of their eggs buried in the sands or marine life stuck during low waters. If you love water sports, go kite-surfing, water skiing and wake boarding. You could also go sailing, scuba diving or on a snorkeling excursion with dolphins to accompany you. Book a canoe or kayak ride or go deep sea fishing and catch unbelievably huge Marlins, Broadbill Swordfish and more. Since Al Hamra is part of the conservation program at Turtle Bay Beach in Watamu, you will be asked to tag and release your catch. In addition to booking Al Hamra for your beach holiday by the Indian Ocean, AfricanMecca Safaris can organize beach tours to historic, cultural, flora and fauna locations such as the Gedi Ruins, Arabuko Sokoke Forest Reserve for bird and butterfly watching, walking trails or to the Mida Creek for mangrove explorations and sunset dhow trips. Combine your stay in Watamu with a fly-in safari to Masai Mara National Reserve.
