GUIDE ON GAMEWATCHERS ADVENTURE CAMP IN AMBOSELI
The Selenkay Gamewatchers Adventure Camp offers you rudimentary camping style, non-frill experience of staying in 9 little backpacker style domed tents with zippered entrances that can sleep two people at a time during your adventurous tour in Kenya. Mount Kilimanjaro towers in the background and the lush savannah grasses dotted with stately acacia trees camouflage the many treasures of the Amboseli. A budget accommodation for the price conscious AfricanMecca traveler, the camp itself is located in the Selenkay Conservancy where you can take nature safari walks on your African trip under the guidance of trained Maasai trackers. The camp is operated under the direction of the local Maasai who are certified members of the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association. Your camping tents are erected under a rough shelter of bamboo and stand six feet high. Covering a total area of ten square feet, the tents are insect-proof and can also sleep a child. At the back of the tent, little canvas booths house the flush toilet, shower and washbasin. Mattresses and pillows are provided for your use, but you are required to bring your sleeping bag and towel. However, you also have the option of hiring them at the camp. The staff at the camp takes care of all your needs and provides wholesome meals. They also attend to the basic housekeeping chores associated with camping. You can have your meals in the separate dining tent or out in the open on most fine weather days. Your meals of the day along with mineral water are included in the accommodation charges for your exploratory vacation in Amboseli. Picnic lunches are providing when visiting Amboseli National Park on a full day excursion. Any other drinks you need like sodas, beer and wine are chargeable, but you can carry them from Nairobi if you like.Like all other camps, the Selenkay Gamewatchers Adventure Camp has 4 by 4 open safari vehicles that game drive guests around the Amboseli ecology to view the amazing variety of avian and terrestrial fauna. These vehicles can convey six guests at a time, and each of you will have your own open window seat to view the landscape. The Maasai are renowned for their expertise and knowledge about the nature. By studying tracks and droppings, they are able to know which animal has passed and their possible direction. They are able to identify their locations and know how to spot them in the dense undergrowth. Amboseli has hundreds of elephants spread over its area of 392 square kilometers (151 square miles). You can watch them as they bath in the swamps or the seasonal lake of Amboseli. The swamps are also home to the hippos and many resident birds. You will see birds like the starling, cranes, herons, flamingos, kestrels and others. Four of the Big African Five also reside in the park, the elephant, leopard, buffalo and lion. The park supports diverse herbivores such as wildebeest, eland, hartebeest, gazelles, zebras, giraffes, impalas and many more. Two varieties of hyenas, spotted and striped, hunt and scavenge here. In addition, the nocturnal animals like aardvarks, bat-eared foxes and caracals make night drives exciting. Your AfricanMecca safari holiday activities at Selenkay Gamewatchers Adventure Camp include morning and afternoon game driving excursions at Selenkay Conservancy, evening/night game drives, nature safari walks and a visit to Amboseli National Park on a full day safari.
