GUIDE ON AMBOSELI SERENA SAFARI LODGE IN KENYA
From the private veranda of your guest room at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, you look out across the twilight savannah plains to see herbivores like wildebeests, buffalos, zebras grazing peacefully yet on guard. Incredibly, this is only the first morning of your awe-inspiring vacation in Kenya, and soon you will be joining your experienced AfricanMecca guide for thrilling game drives. The deluxe 92-room lodge is sited in a wonderful stand of acacia trees with the grandeur of Mount Kilimanjaro dominating the horizon. Melting snow from the summit feeds a network of underground springs that give life to an otherwise dry landscape. Marshes and swamps, such as the one that is situated near the lodge, serve as watering holes that attract elephants, hippos, buffalos, wildebeests and several other fauna. From the lodge's restaurant, you watch the intriguing behaviors of Africa's bush wildlife, such as an individual zebra within the protection of the harem that feels safe enough to sleep standing up! Listen closely to the calls of these animals, as their bark and whinny indicate a cheetah, leopard or another predator is nearby. If their alerts grow in intensity or supported by alarm calls from monkeys or other small plains herbivores, you will be on the verge of your seat watching and waiting for the most exciting part of any bush holiday in Amboseli National Park -- the hunt. Located within Amboseli’s prime real estate location, Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge is a mid-range accommodation that gives you a good balance of affordability and excellence (read more on where else to stay in Amboseli Park on your East African safari). The guest rooms and suites feature locally-influenced decor that highlights the craftsmanship and traditions of the Maasai people. A ceiling fan, sleeping area with a dressing table, full bathroom and other amenities are exactly what you need for a very comfortable trip to Kenya's wild lands. Your day of wilderness travel in Amboseli National Park begins with the rising sun on the horizon, and the wild air is filled with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and tea. After garnering energy from the breakfast buffet, you join your experienced guide for a game drive tour across the arid landscape. Around you are numerous fauna from impala, gazelle, warthogs, hartebeest, Maasai giraffe and many other grazing animals. Your guide will use his admirable experience and expertise to get you to the finest and strategic locations for wildlife viewing and to observe specific behaviors. He may also join in the reciprocity of insider spotting information with a closed network of trusted guides on the ground to maximize tracking opportunities based on last sighting, sounds, trails and droppings (read more on the best time to visit Amboseli for a Southern Kenya safari). Before returning to the Amboseli Serena Lodge for a buffet lunch, you realize that you have seen most of the Africa's Big Five in only a few short hours, with the exception of rhinos that are not present in Amboseli. The Amboseli rhinos were moved few decades ago to Tsavo West for stricter safeguard of this vanishing animal. A delightful cup of afternoon tea is all you need after your nap and before pursuing your afternoon game drive activity in the backwoods of Amboseli. On your return, join other AfricanMecca guests around the campfire for sunset cocktails and stories of adventurous safaris in East Africa. The final meal of the night is absolutely gratifying, and you contemplate your day as you stroll back to your room for nightfall’s rest before your next day adventure.
