GUIDE ON TAWI LODGE IN KENYA

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Tawi Lodge

Tawi Lodge works in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation to assist in the growth and preservation of the wildlife in the Amboseli ecosystem and the Maasai community living there. Their operations are in keeping with subtle eco-friendly values, and their focus is on minimizing their impact on the delicate eco-system where they are located.

Tawi is an upmarket, boutique accommodation for guests who want to luxuriously tour Africa and are looking for the finest of living standards and amenities, personalized services, expert guided activities and excellent cuisine. It is located in an exclusive 6000 acre conservancy, close to the eastern portal of the Amboseli National Park.

Tawi Lodge has 12 chalets with thatched roofs; each erected on its own wooden deck, perfect for open-air relaxation. Their deck has daybeds where you can spend quiet afternoons on your safari holiday in Amboseli with stunning views of the lofty Mount Kilimanjaro. AfricanMecca guests can opt for double bed or twin bed chalets, and they all come with fireplaces that give the rooms an inviting, romantic feel.

Choose drinks from the mini-bar and enjoy long soaks in the bathtub at the end of your exciting days on your African safari vacation in southern Kenya. Twin washbasins, separate shower area and bathrobes are also available for your use. Solar power warms the water for your bath; and also provides the electricity to light your room and to charge your batteries and mobile devices. A butler assigned to your room takes care of all your needs during your safari trip at Tawi.

The dining area and bar is located in a shady locale, in the midst of the central lodge zone and close to the paths leading up to the swimming pool. The ingredients for your meals are sourced from the organic lowlands of Amboseli that have rich, volcanic soil watered by underground streams that originate from Mt. Kilimanjaro. Added Swahili coastal herbs lend an authentic taste to your meals.

You will begin your day at dawn and leave for your morning game drive in safari vehicles that have open sides. Watch as elephants splash water and then mud over themselves as protection against the heat and body pests. You might also see hippos soaking in the swamps hidden by the tall papyrus grasses that surround them.

Your Maasai guides are experts at discerning camouflaged animals and tracking them based on the spoor they leave as they move through the undergrowth. They will take you to see them and will awe you with their knowledge of the wildlife you see. The Amboseli National Park has more than 50 mammalian species that include herbivores like dik-dik, impala, waterbuck, gazelle, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, warthogs and more.

You will see them grazing in the savannah grasslands while animals like giraffes, baboons and vervet monkeys thrive in the acacia woods. Predators like lion, hyena, cheetah and leopard along with smaller civet and caracal keep their numbers in check. The park also has an astonishing number of bird varieties and more than 425 have been recorded. The swamps of Amboseli are great habitats for migratory birds and a birdwatcher’s residential Paradise.

You may see martial eagles, pygmy falcons, ostriches, flamingos, secretary birds, herons, vultures and so on. While traveling in Amboseli with AfricanMecca, do take the time for a night safari or a nature walk in the conservatory. Your days at the Tawi Lodge will end with a delicious dinner under the open sky lighted with a campfire with the night sounds of Africa around you (read more on where else to stay in Amboseli National Park).
