You wilderness safari activities in East Africa are sure to include a game drive, and you can experience the same sense of adventure and excitement on the outskirts of Nairobi. Game drives in Nairobi National Park are offered in the morning and afternoon when the animals are most likely to be active, and you travel in the wonderful comfort of a custom built safari vehicle with a pop-up roof.

Full day game drives are offered if you are staying outside the park boundaries. The vehicle is designed to give you a panoramic outlook of the landscape and unobstructed views of the animals, a feature that is especially valuable for photographers.

A dedicated AfricanMecca guide with an intimate knowledge of the park takes you to locations where you have the greatest chance of seeing the animals, and to stay on top of the action, your guide shares and garners information, such as footprints, last sightings, specific behaviors, with other preferred like-minded guides.

This real-time information means that you may catch a lion hunt in progress, see two baby wildebeest playing and many other once-in-a-lifetime experiences such a zebra or an impala giving birth (read more on when is the best time to go to Nairobi National Park). You may catch sight of some of the park's stealthy predators, such as leopard, spotted hyena, cheetah, as well as herbivores, such as buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, one of the 14 species of antelope and many others!

More than 527 species of migratory and endemic feathered fauna are also found in the park, such as kori buzzard, crowned eagle, flightless ostrich, red-collared widowbird, wahlberg’s honeybirds and many more! Nairobi National Park has recently been designated as a sanctuary for black and white rhino, so you may have the chance to see one of these incredible Big 5 creatures during your game drive. You may also request a sundowner where you travel to a breathtaking setting to enjoy a refreshing cocktail as the sun sinks into the horizon.

More leisurely activities at Nairobi National Park include nature walks along the trails near the hippo pools, as well as the Nairobi Safari Walk. AfricanMecca guests may also visit the Nairobi Animal Orphanage or simply relax in one of the designated picnic areas for a delicious lunch amidst the wilderness. Commemorating the destruction of 60 tons of confiscated ivory in 1989, the Ivory Burning Site Monument is an educational and insightful part of your tour activities in Nairobi National Park.
