GUIDE ON LOYK MARA CAMP IN KENYA
Loyk Mara Camp is a modest African safari accommodation that is located in the Olare Motorogi wilderness on the northern border of Masai Mara National Reserve in south-western Kenya. Note that Loyk Mara is not a member camp of the Olare Motorogi Conservancy thus it does not have traversal rights for game activities within the conservancy. The outskirts wilderness shares the same ecosystem as the reserve, so you enjoy a common diversity of flora and fauna. The camp and its surrounding outback are set amidst pristine landscape that is similar to that found in the reserve, including savannah plains, riverine forest, marshes and floodplains. The 10 guest tents at Loyk Mara are designed to evoke your inner adventure-seeking Kenya traveler, leaving you feeling much like those who first discovered the very land that lay before your eyes. Though, modern elements are present and do blend in with traditional safari style in the sleeping area and bathroom. Furnishings include king size bed, bedside lamps, canvas wardrobe and a small sitting area with side table and armchair. The en-suite bathroom features solar-powered hot water shower, flush toilet, wash basin, vanity with mirror, shaving sockets and hair dryer. You also have a personal tea and coffee maker in your tent. AfricanMecca can also arrange for an optional personal butler and in-tent dining for honeymooner guests. Your spirit feels as free as the wildlife as you sit on your private elevated wooden deck that surrounds your tent where you will appreciate incredible views and wildlife interactions throughout the day. Should you want to augment your trip in Masai Mara into an intimate affair, request to have your tent furthest away from the main area. These tents not only offer the highest level of privacy, but you are also closest to the territorial roaring lions that are likely watching out for compromised buffalos, zebras, wildebeests and other herbivores. The camp also has a resident leopard that is sometimes seen from the tents at the end of the accommodation. Welcome a new day at Loyk Mara Camp as golden sunlight filters into your tent, stirring you from a peaceful slumber. A soft knock and kind voice serve as your wake-up call. Prepare aromatic coffee and tea as you freshen up, and then join your AfricanMecca guide for a game drive tour of Masai Mara. We recommend a full day game drive to familiarize yourself with the flora, fauna and overall plains game safari experience. Note due to restrictions in traversal rights, Loyk Mara does its game drives inside the public Masai Mara National Reserve, and not in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Your guide has an intimate and personal knowledge of the reserve, so you are taken to superlative locations in the vast plains landscape. You may see an elephant mother escorting her small calf to a watering hole, lion pride gnawing the last bits of meat from a zebra carcass with a pack of nervous hyenas and every watchful vultures close by and much more. From July to October, you will see immense herds of wildebeests and zebras that travel through the game reserve and conservancy as part of the Great Serengeti – Masai Mara Migration. Return to camp for breakfast if you opted for a morning bush walk, and then spend the remainder of the morning as your wish or proceed to the reserve for your game drive. Perusing the curio shop for souvenir tokens during your bush holiday in Kenya might interest you, as well as board games, reading, napping and other pastimes. If you run short of time, you have some hours after lunch for a bird-watching, Maasai cultural tour and much more. After dinner, join other guests around the campfire to share your day's stories. For a stupendous East African vacation, we recommend that you add a hot air balloon safari to your schedule!
