GUIDE ON NGERENDE ISLAND LODGE IN KENYA
Ngerende Island Lodge is a noteworthy East African bush holiday lodging for guests who desire a luxury experience in the private wilderness of Masai Mara. The lodge is strategically situated on the Mara River in a natural river erosion formation in the shape of an oxbow lake. The river winds around the property so that it is almost completely surrounded except for a small 100-yard section. While staying at the lodge, you have access to the reserve as well as the Ol Choro Oiroua Conservancy, a 17,400-acre of private land. With so much expansive and pristine wilderness at your feet, Ngerende is sure to give you the ultimate dream vacation in Kenya. In addition to the incredible bush country around you, the lodge itself offers an up-market atmosphere where you are pampered with the utmost in personal service with your own butler and fine dining, as well as elegant guest tents. With only 7 guest tents for a maximum of fourteen guests, Ngerende Island Lodge offers an ultra-premier tented accommodation with superlative views of the river. Each boutique tent features all the comforts of home with sophisticated accents and design elements. Throughout your tent are golden wood floors that evoke a sense of warmth and ease. A wide sitting deck features cozy leather chairs, coffee table, foot stools and two sofa loveseats covered in ecru fabric that is accented with spice-colored pillows and throws. The interior private fireplace is perfect for a romantic in-room dinner night with your loved one amidst grunting hippos or to fend off the night chill while engaging in a stimulating conversation with your safari partner about your glamorous AfricanMecca tour experience of Masai Mara National Reserve. Just beyond is your sleeping area that features the same color palette as the sitting area. Furnishings include a cozy bed, nightstands, bedside lamps, escritoire, multi-tone journaling chair and native artwork.
While majority of the tent interiors and exteriors evokes your inner adventurer, the en-suite bathroom is a heavenly space where you feel immersed in a spa-like setting. A free-standing bathtub is open to the outdoors and the bathroom also features twin basin, mirrors and flush toilet. The tent is constructed on an elevated platform, so the views from your private verandah are quite stunning. The lodge also features a Honeymoon Suite with a plunge pool. Coffee and tea are brought to your tent each morning as part of your wake-up call. Once you are awake and dressed, you meet with your professional guide for a morning game safari in the private backwoods of Masai Mara. You spend a few hours exploring the plains terrain and seeing many of the resident animals. The abundance of flora and fauna make the reserve and conservancy an exceptional year-round destination, but the action is phenomenal from July to October. As part of the Masai Mara Migration, over one million wildebeests and thousands of zebras migrate from the Serengeti National Park into the game reserve and surrounding conservancies during these months. The experience of seeing the vast gnu herds up-close is simply jaw-dropping! In the late morning, your guide may find a beautiful location for a bush breakfast or you can return to Ngerende Island Lodge to eat with other guests. After breakfast, you have some opportunity to relax with a good book, discover some of the small natural plants and animals on the property with an armed ranger or sit on your verandah and watch the wildlife at the river. After lunch, you may want a quick siesta before afternoon tea and your late day game drive. As the sun slips below the horizon, you enjoy sundowners in a gorgeous spot before returning to camp for dinner. AfricanMecca Safaris recommends that you enhance your wilderness travel in Kenya with hot air ballooning over the plains and rivers of Masai Mara, participating in a tree-planting initiative, birdwatching riverine trip and visiting the rhino sanctuary, as well as a local village and school.
