GUIDE ON ROYAL MARA SAFARI LODGE IN KENYA
Masai Mara offers any guest a magical African travel experience, and we recommend the deluxe Royal Mara Safari Lodge to AfricanMecca guests who prefer an ultra-mid-range accommodation with the finest of personalized service, excellent cuisine, expert guide and distinct accommodation amidst varied fauna, flora and cultural experiences. The lodge is located within Mara North Conservancy amidst some of the area’s superlative features, including Leopard Gorge, Mara River and Hippo Bend Lagoon. The 8 elevated animal-named tents with a rustic tiled roof offer you 650-square feet of private space where you are totally immersed in the cultures and natural beauty of Kenya. Each tent features individual design elements, such as hand-carved furniture, African art and much more. The mahogany floors and private outdoor deck bathe your tent in an inviting and rich red –orange color that reminds you of the spectacular African sunsets and earth. The décor of Royal Mara is like a small cultural tour of Kenya’s tribes that invites you to celebrate and appreciate local craftsmanship. The artisanship of the Akamba people are beautifully represented in the carved four-poster beds, writing desk and dining table and chairs. The stunning carvings continue into the bathroom where you find a double vanity sink area, shower, bidet and flush toilet. Best of all, the furniture is built from fallen native olive and white podo logs to preserve the ecological treasures of the land. All of the spacious tents offer great views of the Mara River. We consider the best views to be those that are closest to Hippo Point, but the sounds of the hippos at night may keep you awake! Some guests may consider this to be a bonus for their nature-centric Masai Mara vacation while others may not be comfortable with having their sleep disturbed during the night so earplugs are recommended. Wi-Fi is available but timed at certain hours when the generator is switched on; therefore, lighting and power to also charge your electronics is available at fixed times. Your wake-up call includes fresh, hot coffee and tea brought to your room. You spend a few quiet moments on your private deck watching the early day activities at the river. You then join your guide for a morning game drive in the conservancy. Masai Mara National Reserve is part of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, so the abundance of wildlife is practically unimaginable. Resident species are always present, including varied herbivores and carnivores. But even your wildest dreams cannot prepare you for the Masai Mara migration from July to October. Massive herds of wildebeests and zebras travel across the reserve and conservancy, and you have a front row seat during your exploratory nature holiday in south-western Kenya. You return to Royal Mara Lodge for a tasty buffet breakfast, and then you have some free time to spend as you wish. The property is quite lovely and intimate where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll with resident elands on site. Enjoy hamburgers, barbecued steaks, grilled chicken, potatoes, salads and much more for lunch before returning to your tent for a nap and some light reading. Tea is served with an appetizing selection of finger sandwiches, scones and other edible delights. Round out your day with an afternoon game drive and sunset cocktails in the bush or around a campfire. A candlelit dinner fills the air with romance and adventure – a perfect ending to your daylong safari trip into Masai Mara Game Reserve. AfricanMecca guests may also enhance their stay at Royal Mara with a village visit, bush walk, night game drive, birding tour and supplementary hot air ballooning.
