Friendly service, a warm, intimate ambience and lush green surroundings give you the impression of staying with family instead of a safari camp on your authentic nature holiday in south-western Kenya with AfricanMecca. Owned and operated in alliance with twenty-six Maasai families, Sekenani Camp is a budget accommodation in the Sekanani section on the eastern outskirts of Masai Mara National Reserve. Here, you will enjoy the enthusiasm with which the Maasai welcome you to this little corner of Kenya. They have their own vegetable patch from where they source the ingredients for the palatable meals they prepare for you, lending them that unique East African flavor. The takings from the camp that are shared between the families are used for the development of essential facilities for their community. Sekanani’s lounge, bar and dining room are all located in a spacious canvas tent with a high roof made with poles. Mesh windows allow in the sights, light and sounds of the outback country, and you just might spot a zebra or a vervet monkey walking past as you have your meal. There is also a spacious patio outside where a campfire is lit in the evenings, around which you can sip sundowner drinks and make friends with other vacationers on your intimate trip in Africa (read more on the best time to visit Masai Mara). The camp is partly powered by solar panels with an inverter battery. A generator runs in the evening so you can charge your electronics. Solar power lights your tents and warms the bath water for your use. The camp also has an oval-shaped swimming pool.

The Sekenani River emerges from a natural pool on the east of the camp and flows in a little rivulet outside the guest tents. On your AfricanMecca safari tour of Masai Mara Game Reserve, you will stay in the camp's 15 tents, each located at a secluded distance from each other to accord you the privacy you need. Erected on a raised deck, the tent has an extra shelter layer of corrugated roof, wooden floors, canvas walls along with mesh windows and door entrance with roll-up canvas flaps that you can lower for added privacy. A writing desk is placed for your use along with comfortable safari chairs on the wooden deck where you can spend time reveling in the natural beauty of the valley below you. The attached bathroom comes with standard toiletries, a standalone basin and bathtub. If the weather is chilly, the staff provides hot water bottles for a snug, warm, comfortable sleep. Your Maasai hosts at Sekenani Camp have a keen knowledge of the land and its many terrestrial and avian inhabitants, and your wildlife vacation in Eastern Africa will be made all the more delightful with their experienced insights. One of them will accompany as your guide during game drives in a custom-rigged safari vehicle. Join in his proud recounts of the wonders of the Great Migration of the wildebeests, the plethora of mammals and the over 450 species of birds that call the Masai Mara home. You could also visit the local Maasai village for a culturally enlightening tour. Also, go on bush walks to learn about the flora with its amazing healing powers or on a Mara balloon safari to view the wildlife in difficult to access locations by land and with a bird’s eye perspective. Your bush travel in Kenya will be made more memorable by the al-fresco breakfasts and luncheons that you can have in the bush and evening drinks in the warm glow and glorious colors of the sun setting over the Masai Mara.
