GUIDE ON MARA SOPA LODGE IN KENYA
In the Sekenani locale of eastern Masai Mara, on the lush, green escarpments of the Oloolaimutai Hills is a collection of round East African architecture inspired cottages that make up the Mara Sopa Lodge. Cone-shaped high roofs with red tiles blend into the trees and bushlands with each structure having been constructed keeping the original vegetation intact wherever possible. Ocher-colored walls with pleasant African decor complete with a calabash chandelier charms you as you enter the reception area on your migration safari holiday in Kenya with AfricanMecca. Close by is the lounge with a central fireplace and adorned with elephant wall paintings and other curios. Willow woven furniture and warm earthy tones will enchant you with their sheer simplicity while the Jumbo Bar at one end serves cool drinks to relax with. While the lodge does offer Wi-Fi services in common areas, you might find that it is slow with a strong signal only in certain zones. Mara Sopa is well suited for the budget-conscious traveler, and on your comfy tour of Africa, you will be staying in one of the fifty guest cottages (100 rooms in total) that are spread on both sides of the main lounge and dining area. Each cottage houses two rooms, some with a double king-size bed and others with two queen-size beds with a maximum of 200 guests on board. The lodge can also set up an additional single bed for a third guest (read more on where else to stay in Masai Mara on your East African safari). Mosquito nets can be drawn around the beds at night, and the room also includes an electronic safe, dresser and a couple of wooden chairs. The attached bathroom has a separate shower area, and the patio outside is furnished with light safari chairs that offer interrupted views of the natural gardens with their brightly colored flowers amongst it. If you are looking for more spacious living spaces for your wilderness travels to Masai Mara National Reserve, you can choose from one of the six suites the lodge offers. The suites include a small lounge within the room and have a roomy patio for relaxing. Newly wed couples on a budget can opt for the Honeymoon Suite with its capacious interiors, bathroom that includes a sunken bath and sheltered verandah. You might find that the since some of the rooms are located at a distance from the main areas of the lodge, you have to walk quite a way to the dining area for meals that can be crowded at times. This factor can be especially inconvenient if it rains or if you prefer to use the common areas frequently e.g. pool, bar etc. Have your meals indoors in the lodge's dining room or on their outdoor deck under big parasols for shade. Mara Sopa Lodge serves you meals buffet style, but they also have a cooking station where some dishes are cooked to your taste on certain days of the week. They also offer special meals for kids and cater to specific dietary requirements with prior notice. In between your game drives on your adventure vacation in Kenya, you can visit the swimming pool for a dip or for an afternoon of ease beside it. And order drinks at the poolside Ol Murrani Bar. Explore the Masai Mara Game Reserve in custom-equipped safari vehicles as your experienced, well-read AfricanMecca guide dialogs to you about the intrigue of the seasonal Great Wildebeest Migration and the famed Big Five of Africa. You can also go on nature walks for an excursion filled with wonders at the sights, sounds, scents and sensations of the reserve or go on balloon safaris for a bird’s eye view of the landscape. However, your cultural trip to East Africa would be incomplete without an ethnic foray into the nearby Maasai village to learn more about their customs, traditions and way of life.
