GUIDE ON MARA SIMBA LODGE IN KENYA
The Great Serengeti Migration of wildebeest, zebras, elands and gazelles through Masai Mara National Reserve is one of nature’s most incredible wonders, and while you are planning on your AfricanMecca migration tour of south-western Kenya to witness this marvelous spectacle, you could choose the modest Mara Simba Lodge for your stay. Nestled in a loop of the Talek River and built into the natural landscape of riverine forest, this economy lodge blends effortlessly into its milieu of beautiful birds, butterflies and bold monkeys. The lounge and dining areas, perched on a platform supported by timber poles, are created out of naturally available materials like cedar wood for the floors and lofty makuti thatched roofs. Conscious of conserving its delicate ecosystem, the lodge has its own onsite sewage treatment plant. The pathways leading to the 84 guest rooms in fused wood chalets are well lighted at night but since some small mammals roam the lodge grounds, an escort is provided to accompany you to your room after dinner (read more on where else to stay in Masai Mara Kenya). Your rooms are a delightful combination of primarily wood with stone walls, constructed to resemble a traditional thatched chalet from the exterior and country-house room in the interior. They overlook the river, some with partial views due to the dense foliage. You can relax on your private deck or balcony and watch the crocodiles and hippos in the water. Each two-story chalet has four rooms on the lower level and two interlinked rooms on the upper level. Of these rooms, sixty have twin beds while twelve come with double beds. Four of the rooms include a double and an additional single bed but if you are traveling in this vastness of East Africa with 3 friends, you could also opt for one of the eight rooms with three individual single beds. The attached bathrooms have all the amenities typical of a budget accommodation and hairdryers are also provided on request. If you would rather stay in a tented room for the duration of your safari holiday in eastern Masai Mara, the lodge has a small collection of tents facing the river for a camping experience though the feeling is pseudo and unauthentic. While you can request for a private bush meal cooked on site, the dining room at Mara Simba Lodge offer buffet-style cuisine. Choose from vegetarian and meat options, special meals for kids and modest desserts. Spend your afternoons post lunch lounging beside the swimming pool or taking a languorous swim. And enjoy your evenings after dinner around the stone fireplace as you recount the events and sights of the day. Or relax on the outside patio as you watch a shy leopard or herds of elephants visit the floodlit river to drink. You can begin your day on your adventurous trip in wild Kenya with your morning game drive in a custom-built safari vehicle. Directed by an experienced, knowledgeable AfricanMecca guide, explore the wondrous Masai Mara Game Reserve with its incredible wildlife that includes the Big Five of Africa and more than 450 species of birds, some seasonal visitors like their sapiens touring. As dusk approaches on your afternoon game drive, you can have sundowner drinks as the sun bathes the landscape in rich golden hues. To experience the Masai Mara more closely through sights, sounds, odors and touches, you could go on safari walks accompanied by a naturalist guide. Complete your cultural vacation in Africa with a visit with your hosts of the land you are staying on, the Maasai, at their villages.
