GUIDE ON OL PEJETA BUSH CAMP IN KENYA
An authentic safari camp, sited in the stunning locales of southern Laikipia in magical Kenya with the lofty peak of Mount Kenya forming a backdrop, that is Ol Pejeta Bush Camp for you. Guests traveling in East Africa will enjoy the experience of staying in a tent on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro with elephants visiting to drink on the far side and lions roaring in the night. This deluxe bush accommodation, owned and run by Alex Hunter, is located on 90,000 acres of untouched wilderness at Ol Pejeta Conservancy that is known for the highest numbers of black rhinos in a single reserve in East Africa. Ol Pejeta Bush Camp comprises of non-permanent structures that include a central twin-tent that houses a comfortable lounge and dining area along with 7 other tents for guests. The tents are erected on a flat, tarp-lined surface and some are sheltered under a rough shelter of tree branches. Double or twin beds are included along with small tables where you can place your luggage. The attached bathroom is at the back of the tent and includes a double basin and shower. Bucket shower are on offer here on your yesteryear safari tour of Kenya, please put in your request when required and the staff with fill the bucket outside with warm water for you at any time of the day. The tents also have a spacious patio outside, furnished with safari furniture for your relaxation. One tent is large enough to accommodate a family with two kids. It has a double bed and can include two extra single beds, but if needed, the camp can also set up four singles for you. If you are adventurously vacationing in Laikipia with more family members, with prior notice, AfricanMecca can arrange to add extra tents for you. Since Ol Pejeta Boran farm raises their own cattle, the beef and lamb in your meals is sourced from the farm. The camp chef uses sustainable charcoal to cook meals for you that have both vegetarian and non-vegetarian selections, and the honey harvested from Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a must-try on your African delectable trip. You can have you meals in the mess tent or in the bush while dinners are an exciting event, served under the open sky, around a fire with the grunts of leopards and calls of nocturnal fauna to serenade you. If you are wondrously holidaying in Kenya with as family with children, you can join them as they delight in various safari activities like making a fire using sticks, spear throwing, shooting an arrow from a bow or trailing animals by studying their tracks and identifying birds and insects. Go on game drives in custom safari vehicles with an experienced and knowledge guide or simply spend a quiet morning in a hide that is a good vantage point to watch animals as they visit the saltlick. Visit Barak, the rhino, in his own private 100-acre pen or the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary where 40 chimpanzees are given a safe haven endorsed by the Jane Goodall Institute. Or spend time at the Ol Pejeta Boran cattle farm to view the unusual Ugandan Ankole cattle with their uniquely shaped horns. Ol Pejeta Conservancy has many rare animals roaming freely and you could see black rhinos, white rhinos, Grevy’s zebras, Jackson’s hartebeest and more The reserve also hosts the Big Five of Africa, the leopard, lion, rhino, buffalo and elephant and while you are there, you may have the exciting opportunity to accompany a ranger as he goes tracking lions that have been fitted with radio collars as part of conservation programs.
