GUIDE ON KILIMA SAFARI CAMP IN KENYA
Kilima Safari Camp is a large, value accommodation in Amboseli, the picture-perfect wilderness for an exploratory safari holiday in Kenya. Sited on the outside of the Amboseli National Park, close to Kimana Gate, this 72 room camp offers you all the comforts of home with satisfactory food and warm service. Wake up each morning to awesome views of the snow-covered peaks of the lofty Kilimanjaro and revel in the beauty of the stately acacia trees whose spreading branches provide some shade to certain areas of the camp. AfricanMecca guests could also spend time beside the pool lounging in the sunbeds or take a refreshing swim between game drives. Charge your electronics in your room but this non-frill accommodation supplies electricity only for fixed hours during the day to save on operating costs. The camp has 60 tents (50 Classic and 10 Superior) and 12 lodge rooms that are set at an endurable distance from each other to accord you some privacy. Spacious with ethnic décor, Classic Tents and Lodge Rooms have a double and single bed while Superior Tents have a four-poster double bed with a standalone bath. Pathways lead to the rooms, and during the evenings and early mornings, a staff member carrying a torch will escort you around the camp. Patios outside each room have seating arrangements so you can enjoy the tranquil Amboseli ambience. The tented rooms in lodge-like structure are constructed partly of canvas and part concrete with sliding doors. The attached bathrooms are roomy and have double basins with a distinct shower area. Hot water is generally available for your showers, and the bathrooms have a dressing counter for your toiletries. The Kilima Safari Camp has a huge dining area that can accommodate 150+ guests on a full-house combined with a bar where meals are served to guests travelling in this precinct of Africa. Set in the center of the restaurant is an observation tower that consents sweeping views of the reserve around you. You will begin your day with tea or coffee and biscuits. Afterwards, you can leave for your morning game drive in time for the gate opening time. A drawback for staying outside the park! Custom built safari vehicle suited to the coarse terrain with your experienced guide on board will take you strategic locations to maximize on your wildlife viewing opportunities. During your Kilima Safari Camp game drives in Amboseli, you may see four of the Big Five of Africa, the elephant, lion, buffalo and leopard. The game driving terrain of grasslands, wetlands, acacia trees and a seasonal lake serves as habitat to many species of herbivores and their predators. There are abundant elephants and you will see varied herds wandering among the papyrus grasses in swampy grounds or the dry plains of the Amboseli. Zebras, wildebeests, waterbucks, giraffes, hartebeests, gazelles, elands and many other grazers abound. Lions, though limited in quantities compared to Masai Mara, along with leopards, cheetahs and hyenas prowl the landscape. The park houses more than 425 species of birdlife, and many of them arrive at the park from faraway places like Madagascar and even Russia! When you return from your morning drive, your appetite is ready for a hot breakfast at the camp’s dining area. Later, you could opt for a nature walk in the Amboseli environs of the camp’s vicinity accompanied by your guide. After a lunch of platters, you can enjoy a siesta before it is time for your late afternoon game drive. Spend your evenings around a campfire with your sundowner cocktail, mingling with other guests also on an extraordinary safari trip in Kenya and sign off your day with an adequate dinner with your order to drink.
