Royal Mara Safari Lodge, Masai Mara Safari

Royal Mara Safari Lodge is situated directly on the great "Wildebeest Migration" route, near the two world famous wildebeest migratory Mara River crossing points and near Leopard Gorge, all made internationally known by the BBC's Big Cat Diary television program. The lodge is located on the popular Hippo Bend Lagoon of the Mara River, amongst several elephant, buffalo and giraffe herds, and with close proximity to several lion prides, including the "Maternity", Musiara Marsh, "Aitong", and Ridge prides. Given Royal Mara's position in the richest game section of the Masai Mara, the Western Mara, the lodge's guests are in one of the best location to most readily discover the Big Five mammals. Thousands of wildlife documentaries and countless millions of photographs stand testament to this timeless corner of the world.

Royal Mara Safari Lodge riverfront guest suite facilities include: hand carved super size king or double beds, double vanity sinks, carved desks, dining sets, en suite bathrooms with flush toilets, bidets, and showers, fully stocked mini-bars, private safe deposit boxes and lounge areas. All facilities have telephone access with the reception office and enjoy electric and hot water service. Royal Mara's Double vanity sinks, olive wood framing, hand carved toiletries, showers, bidets and flush toilets... all the amenities of modern day life are at your disposal. The excitement of the Mara shouldn't end at the doorway to your suite, and here at the Royal Mara it doesn't. Experience luxurious standards of comfort and the personal attention of an exclusive butler. The Royal Mara Safari Lodge elegant carved furnishings will leave you with memorable impressions. At night listen to bush sounds from roaming wildlife. Resident hippos abandon their river sanctuary after sundown to graze between the river guest suites which are positioned on raised wooden decks with protective railings to insure the safety of the guests at all times.

All of Royal Mara Safari Lodge furniture is made from red cedar, olive and white podo logs gathered locally from private Maasai forest land. Royal Mara Safari Lodge is environmentally conscious so none of the wood is harvested from live trees. The wood is instead selected for its age, quality and strength and consists exclusively of tree logs that have fallen to the ground anywhere from a few years to decades ago and have remained on the ground for extended periods of time. Royal Mara Safari Lodge carvers are local Maasai and Akamba artisans who take pride in carving replicas of the wildlife with which their people have co-existed in the Masai Mara for many generations. Royal Mara's group of talented carvers have let their imaginations run wild: hippos with mouths wide open wallow in the sink basin, carved rhino heads stand guard with rolls of toilet paper, olive branches reach out over the shower to deliver piping hot water. Rediscover the common household items you've grown tired of -- only this time with a safari twist.

Kenya Safari Culinary and Dining Experience At Royal Mara Lodge Located In Masai Mara National Reserve as an African Safari Accommodation

At the Royal Mara every meal is a distinct, unforgettable experience. Meals are served in varied wildlife dining arrangements. Breakfasts may be taken near a hippo pool watching resident hippos bobbing in the river or on the open savannah among grazing herds. Barbecue lunches may be enjoyed in the lodge's dining area or on the Mara River under a tree shade. Dinners can be scheduled in Royal Mara's dining area, in your private riverfront guest suite, under the stars in the bush amid wildlife under the protection of Maasai warriors or in the lodge's traditional fire-lit secluded bush boma.

Breakfasts consist of juices, milk, cereals, eggs with bacon or sausage, pancakes or waffles, tea or brewed coffee, toast, croissants, muffins and other fresh bakery items. Lunches include barbecued steaks and hamburgers, gourmet dishes with a rich assortment of vegetarian plates, soups, salads, cakes and pastries laid out on a sumptuous salad and dessert bar. Dinners are table d'hote in a candle lit campfire atmosphere. Guests enjoy five course dinners with varied appetizers, soups, salads and dinner entrees capped off with elegant desserts. The Royal Mara believes that quality food begins with a quality kitchen. To that end the lodge has spared no expense. Unlike most other safari accommodations that maintain limited facility kitchens due to the constrained bush environment, all of Royal Mara's kitchen facilities consist of brand new, top of the line items specially flown in from Europe. From full size cold room fridges and freezers to fully stocked ovens, stove ranges, cooking equipment, coffee and juice makers and dishwashing facilities, the chefs are equipped with all the appliances they need to make every meal an enjoyable experience. All bakery items are prepared daily on site. Royal Mara's fresh vegetables and fruits are grown locally to the extent possible and supplemented as needed from Nairobi. The lodge's fish products are flown from Mombasa periodically and meat and dairy products are transported every few days from Nairobi. The kitchen, as well as the guest suites, are supplied with water pumped from the lodge's borehole from a depth of 182 feet which is periodically tested in a laboratory to maintain a positive human consumption rating. Despite bush environment, the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation, combined with water filtration of the Royal Mara's water well supply, are maintained for the safety of the guests.
