GUIDE ON KIRURUMU TARANGIRE LODGE IN TANZANIA
Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge is designed for safe and comfortable wilderness living. It is a perfect value African safari accommodation, on the Northern edge of Tarangire National Park in Tanzania, 75 miles from Arusha outskirts, with all necessary amenities for budget aware adventurers who appreciate under canvas authenticity and natural beauty. Formerly called Tamarind Camp, this renewed camp is sited in a 200 acre Maasai private concession, it is lightly forested with graceful acacia trees. You can take walks, ride mountain bikes, or enjoy night game-viewing drives which are not permitted within the park itself. Herds of zebra and wildebeest can be daunting in proximity. For your peace of mind, you will always be attended by unobtrusive Maasai guards when moving the camp grounds. Elephant and antelope roam the grounds, and often visit the tents at dawn to remind you that you share your Tarangire trip with its permanent residents. Tarangire National Park covers over a thousand square miles of varied habitats, from dry grassland frequented by rare gerenuks and fringe-eared oryx, to swampland where thousands of thirsty ungulates congregate during the dry season. The park holds over 2,500 elephants, one of the largest herds seen on wildlife holidays in Africa, as well as tree-climbing lions, and hundreds of species of birds supplemented with diverse hooved herbivores. Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge meets our two core objectives. 1. It provides comfortable and a small personalized value accommodation for AfricanMecca guests; 2. It helps to conserve wildlife and supports local communities such as nearby Mosakini Village, which now has improved school facilities and new water supply among other future plans in the pipeline.
Accommodation At Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge10 simple, light and roomy tents with netted windows are separately sited for seclusion (favored by AfricanMecca guests), with polished red floors on stone plinths. They are covered with thatched roofs and fronted by protective sliding glass doors and shaded verandahs with tables, chairs, and stunning views. Two double, two family and six twin tents all have built-in bathrooms with running water, hand-wash bowl, solar heated safari showers and eco-friendly toilets all curtained off for privacy. There is also a large, locking cupboard. Solid, four-poster iron beds with mosquito nets and thick, comfortable mattresses ensure a sound night’s sleep, once you have become accustomed to the sounds of ambient Tanzanian safari wild-life experience and reassured yourself that a piercing whistle is to hand, with which to alert a 24 hour Maasai night watch patrol if you should feel you need assistance. There are bedside tables with a lamp and a writing desk containing a torch. Bottled drinking water is provided and solar and generator-powered electricity is available until 10 p.m. The Kirurumu Tarangire dining room is a large, open-sided dual entry mess tent with separate tables and a camp-fire area outside where dinner is served in fine weather. The separate lounge area is a similar tent furnished cozily with floor rugs, wooden tables and natural tone sofas supplemented with a trifling bar area. It has a small library and an outside sitting area with a striking view of the seasonal flood plain leading into the national park (see map of Tarangire).
Safari At Kirurumu Tarangire LodgeWhether visiting game parks or villages, on foot or mountain bike, in a hot-air balloon, or a customized safari vehicle with four-wheel drive, two-way radio and pop-up roof for 360 degree vistas, AfricanMecca guides will take you to all the sights you dream about on your tour of Africa. Early morning drives encounter animals roaming freely in the cool hours. By midday, most are gathered near swamps and in light woodland shaded shelter. There are always memorable images to capture. Giant baobab trees look as if they were planted upside down. Lion and leopard lie along their broad, level branches while fat loops of python coils hang down, perfectly camouflaged until they twitch. Vast elephant herds can be seen digging down to underground streams beneath dry river beds. Wherever you look giant ostriches with tiny heads turning like periscopes on scrawny necks, scruffy Kori Bustards stumbling and hopping to lift their ungainly bulk into flight, and flashing rainbows of dozens of yellow-collared lovebirds are enough to convert any visitor to an avid bird watcher. This trip in Tanzania with AfricanMecca will open your eyes and your heart. Termite hills, red concrete mountains two meters high, provide shelter for lovable dwarf mongooses and a platform on which pairs of red and yellow barbets perform their clattering duets. All these you will find, and many more when a Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge Safari gives you the chance to find yourself in the wilderness.
Dining At Kirurumu Tarangire LodgeMost of the food served freshly cooked at Kirurumu Tarangire Lodge comes from local farms. A full range of breads, pastries, egg dishes, soups, roasts, grills and salads are served as buffets and set meals. With notice, special diets can be supplied. Fragrant morning tea and coffee are served at dawn to enable early getaway on day-long Tarangire tour activities taking packed lunches and drinks. For those staying in camp for breakfast, a selection of fruit, cereals and cheese is augmented by hot toast and cooked egg dishes. Guided morning walks are popular as the game is locally abundant. You are sure to see herds of zebras and elephants. The latter often enter the camp and must be deterred from visiting the solar installations in search of water by planting hot chili peppers, which are also used to spice up happy conjunctions of local Tanzanian and international cooking styles and ingredients at Kirurumu. Lunch is normally a set menu – sometimes a small buffet - tasty and filling. A refreshing siesta in the hottest part of the day is a must when traveling In Africa, after which afternoon tea gives you energy for a late game drive, stopping to enjoy a spectacular sunset with traditional sundowners. You will see many nocturnal animals in the headlights as you return for a set dinner served with candlelit decorum in the dining room, or prepared and served around a campfire to make your Tanzanian vacation complete with AfricanMecca.

AfricanMecca's professionalism and care understands that what distinguishes Africa is its authenticity, the land, people and wildlife who do not share our world of fashion and fanfare that distinguish so many travel companies today.
