Art aficionados will love spending time at Ivuka Arts Studio Center, located in the Kacyiru suburb of Kigali. Established in 2007 by Colin Sekajugo, it was intended to bring modern artistic skills to the people of Rwanda. The center started out with seven artists who worked to improve their talents, but today it inspires newcomers to learn and develop their skills. The efforts of the gallery founders have been so successful that they have had exhibitions in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, and in various sites in Rwanda. Should you choose to visit the Heaven Restaurant in Kiyovu, you might have a chance to see some of the paintings by Ivuka artists displayed there.During your Ivuka Art Studio visit, you may be able to watch the artists’ nimble fingers work their magic on the canvas. The center itself is a work of art, with painted walls and a lovely gallery where visitors can admire the art and perhaps pick out souvenirs of their travels to take home. Those looking to immerse themselves fully in the atmosphere of fun and creativity may opt to stay for a day or two; the studio has two rooms that it rents out to art lovers.
