You must tour the Caplaki Handicrafts Cooperative, a collection of about 40 tiny shops within a single compound. Each of the stores carries an unbelievable collection of handcrafted treasures, and you can shop to your heart's content. Look for beautifully carved woodwork and intricately woven baskets. If you’re looking for a unique souvenir from your travels, you’ll enjoy looking at a selection of colorful beaded jewelry and tribal masks, each with an interesting significance behind them. Also look for drums and pottery, and enjoy honing your bargaining skills.The Dancing Pots
Rwanda has three traditional tribal communities: the Twa, Hutu, and Tutsi. Each of them has its own dance forms and other cultural arts. When in Kigali, you could also take time to visit The Dancing Pots. This cultural center displays beautiful pots and painted ceramic animal figurines crafted by the Twa, also known as as Batwa. In addition, dances are presented to holidaymakers visiting the center. This organization functions with the support of the CAURWA (Communauté des Autochtones Rwandais – Community of Indigenous People of Rwanda) and the Forest Peoples Project (FPP), who work for the betterment of the Twa people. These organizations have provided the center with kilns and other equipment to help create better products by sustainable means. Stronger marketing strategies and economic development have been made possible thanks to the grassroots creation of The Dancing Pots center.Among other sightseeing attractions in Kigali are the Parliament Buildings, which bear scars of the genocide in the form of bullet holes in the sides of the building.
