GUIDE ON GALDESSA CAMP IN KENYA
Overlooking the Galana River, scattered with doum palm trees with an ambience and rustic architecture that keeps you close to nature on your wilderness vacation in south-eastern Kenya is the Galdessa Camp. The main lounge and dining area of this upmarket accommodation is made of stone with sloping thatch roofs. Comfortable sofas fashioned out of tree trunks and hardy branches with plush cushions are scattered around for your relaxation. Since this camp is not fenced in Tsavo East National Park (view wilderness map), you will see animals wandering through it on their way to the river. Elephants hose up water with their trunk and hippos graze outside your tent at night while crocodiles lurk in the river aqua. Watch them from the wide patio outside your tent as you relax in comfortable safari chairs and daybeds on your wondrous tour with AfricanMecca. Each of the 11 tents has a sloping roof of thatch supported by poles and is made of canvas along with netted windows to allow air and daylight in. The wooden platform on which it is erected forms a hardwood floor. The bed, chairs and other furniture are also made of tree trunks including a Swahili coffee table with drawers. Some of the tents have double beds while others have twin beds protected with mosquito netting suspended from the ceiling. A third bed is a possibility. Each banda is moderately placed from the other so you have some subtle privacy augmented by dense vegetation that creates a natural curtain. The very spacious bathroom is at the back of the tent with stone floors and offers the safari bucket shower experience. If you are newlyweds or romantics who are celebrating your anniversary on safari, we recommend booking the honeymoon suite.
Small independent groups of AfricanMecca guests and multi-generational families traveling in the outback of Tsavo East Park can opt to book the entire camp for themselves or simply the “Private Galdessa” option. Private Galdessa offers a distinct boutique section that is set apart and includes its own living and dining area with three bungalows. Each banda includes the typical amenities of the other tents with double or twin beds. You will also have a team of attendants assigned to you who will see to of all your requirements at Galdessa Camp. Spend your days in the tranquility of the camp fragmented only by the sounds of birds and the river rushing by with occasional calls of the animals. But do take the time to go on extended game drives on your Kenya exploratory trip to view maximal wildlife. Organized as per your comfort and preference, custom-equipped safari vehicles will be made available to you. The experienced, knowledgeable guide accompanying you is adept at animal behavior and can introduce you to four of the Big Five of beautiful Africa, the lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo. Rhinos are not present in Tsavo East. Your morning game will be concluded with breakfast in the bush with hot dishes cooked on site or back at the camp. Later you can continue to explore Tsavo and perhaps see some of the 500 birds’ species it is home to. Return to Galdessa for lunch or have a three-course meal complemented by cool drinks also in the bush. If you like, you can go on nature walks where your naturalist guide will show you how to track animals in the scrub and the medicines that can be made from the surrounding flora. Also spot small animals, delicate insects, reptiles, amphibians along with birds whose nests are ingeniously hidden in the shrubbery. End your day on your glamorous holiday in East Africa with sundowner, iced drinks with canapés served on thick rugs spread on the rocks, so you can watch as the sun sets on another day in Tsavo.

Jambo Altaf, The service was first class and accommodation was out of this world, the staff at Tsavo could not do enough and if you required anything all you had to do was ask. Thank you for a most memorable experience.
