GUIDE ON ASHNIL ARUBA LODGE IN KENYA
A picture-perfect grassy savannah plain with a watering-hole dam visited by gazelles, impalas, waterbucks, elephants, zebras, buffalos and many more grazing peacefully in front of a sprawling lounge with wooden decks and a red-tiled roof, this is the sight that will welcome you when you arrive at the Ashnil Aruba Lodge. AfricanMecca guests traveling in Tsavo East National Park will find that this deluxe lodge is conveniently located only two-three hours away from the coast of Mombasa and is sited beside the Aruba Dam built along the Voi River. The common lounge that also includes a bar is furnished with comfortable wooden furniture and you can revel in the tranquil ambience of the lodge with equable drinks like cocktails, wines, soft drinks, beers and much more. Or you could take your drink out to the swimming pool and relax in the lounge chairs around it. Ashnil Aruba has a total of 52 rooms for guests vacationing in this expanse of south-eastern Kenya, sited in 46 single story cottages and 6 tents. Families can opt for the one of the eight interconnected rooms with king-size double beds or twin queen-size beds. Four of the rooms have triple beds and two of these are interlinked. Another two rooms are specially adapted for the comfort of physically challenged guests. The rooms have partitioned patios outside where you can relax in safari chairs and take in the splendor of the landscape outside. Mosquito nets hung from the ceiling can be drawn around you at night. The attached bathroom comes with a single basin, shower cubicle with a frosted door along with the amenities typical of the mid-range accommodation. The best view rooms are close to the waterhole. If you would prefer the safari camping experience on your wilderness trip to East Africa, you can stay in one of their six tented rooms at Ashnil Aruba Lodge. Sheltered under red-slated roof supported by poles, the tents have canvas walls with netting for windows that you can cover with canvas panels for privacy. The entrance way is a double flap of mesh and canvas with a patio in front for tranquil afternoons. The bathroom is a permanent structure at the back with a shower stall and other standard amenities. The dining area is also a red-tiled structure and overlooks the watering hole. As you have breakfast, a giraffe might pass you by while on your lunch, you might have a special treat in the form of a herd of elephants drinking, bathing and splashing in the dam water. The lodge serves you buffet meals on the counter in the middle of the diner and you can select from an interesting range of intercontinental and authentic African dishes. The lodge also offers you a children's menu and vegetarians can find a good selection. If you prefer, you can enjoy your meals on the verandah outside under the shade of a canvas umbrella. When safari holidaying in Tsavo East Park, you can go on an expedition of discovery and awe in custom-built safari vehicles under the direction of an experienced, erudite AfricanMecca guide (read more on when is the best time to visit Tsavo East). View the diversity of wildlife and more than 500 species of birds. Aside from the oryx, giraffes, zebras, elands, kongoni, klipspringers and many other ungulates you can also see the short-maned lions of Tsavo and other predators like cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and smaller cats like genet, caracal. Understand the spirit of Tsavo by going on nature walks with an adept naturalist and explore the Lugard Falls to sight crocodiles and hippos. You can also take home mementos of your tour from the lodge's souvenir shop, the proceeds of which will support local artisans.

Jambo Altaf, The service was first class and accommodation was out of this world, the staff at Tsavo could not do enough and if you required anything all you had to do was ask. Thank you for a most memorable experience.
Peter & Tracey Hutton - Prescot, United Kingdom
