GUIDE ON OFFBEAT MERU CAMP IN KENYA
Offbeat Meru Camp Has Been Closed Down Until Further NoticeYour wild vacation in Kenya while staying at the Offbeat Meru Camp will be a stimulating safari adventure of living in an authentic camp erected in a wooded glade with animals wandering around, the tranquil singing of birds in the trees and the gurgling of the Bisanadi rivulet close by. Since you will be staying on the boundary of Meru National Park (view map) but within the Bisanadi National Reserve, you will be able to explore both of these enchanting worlds. The entire camp is made of canvas tents that can be easily dismantled and transferred to another location if need be. Tarps cover the flattened floor and the blue and white color scheme of the camp adds to its cool charm. The main tent is open to nature and furnished with a small, comfortable seating arrangement with colorful cushions strewn for relaxing. Meals are served in the dining section of this tent and it also includes a bar and an interesting collection of books you can choose from. Charge the electronics you need to use on your AfricanMecca trip in Meru in the main tent during the mornings and evenings when the generators are turned on. The slumber tents are lighted with solar power. The only permanent fixture of this mid-range camp is the infinity swimming pool surrounded by a stone-tiled deck. You can take a leisurely, refreshing dip in the afternoons in between your game drives or just lounge in the deck chairs under the trees and wide umbrellas. You will stay over in one of the 7 tented rooms, which are sited at comfortable distances from each other for complete privacy. Each of the six tents includes a double or twin beds as per your preference. The beds are made of iron and covered with diaphanous mosquito nets while tilly lamps lighted in the evenings create a romantic ambience to the room. Unpack and hang your clothes into the open closet. Indoor and outdoor chairs are available in your tent. The attached bathrooms are at the back and you can request hot water for bucket showers at your preferred time of the day or night. Families traveling in Kenya in groups of four can opt for the family tent that comprises of two adjoining rooms within a single tent. Spend time on the patio outside your tent and you might be visited by a reticulated giraffe checking out the succulent leaves of the acacia tree outside. A buffalo could also pass by, sampling the grasses outside or making its way to the Bisanadi River close by, to cool off. Your days at the Offbeat Meru Camp will be filled with tour activities of your choosing, timed to cater to your comfort. Go for game drives in custom-built safari vehicles with a knowledgeable and experienced guide on board. You can also spend part of the day at the rivers fishing for tilapia and catfish, or take your camera for a bird photography session. Bush walks in the company of a skilled naturalist will let you experience the ecology more closely. AfricanMecca could also add a picnic breakfast or lunch to your excursion and have sundowner drinks as dusk settles over Meru. You could extend out on an evening game drive till 7.00 pm to view the more elusive inhabitants of the reserve and then ending with dinner and campfire conversations underneath the twinkling stars of East Africa. Should you need any essentials or postcards and souvenirs to take home from your adventurous holiday in Meru, you can find them at the camp boutique.
