GUIDE ON ELSA'S KOPJE IN KENYA
Step back in history, into a true-life story about the love Joy and George Adamson had for orphaned lions, by spending your wilderness vacation in Kenya at Elsa's Kopje. Built atop Mughwango Hill, close to the location where the Adamson's camp was set up, this upmarket, pastoral lodge is set in the heart of Meru National Park. AfricanMecca guests will have the awesome chance to explore 870 square kilometers of untamed, pristine wilderness all around you with only terrestrial, aquatic and avian fauna roaming free. Elsa’s Kopje is constructed by incorporating the rocks of the surrounding hill into its structure while the furniture is crafted in part using tree trunks harvested in an eco-friendly manner. The end result is a cozy, elegant and premier living space enlivened with black and white photos hangings in the common areas and woven rugs displaying colorful motifs that are simply as breathtaking as the landscape around you. The lodge has 9 accommodations with a selection of six cottages, a secluded private house, a honeymoon suite and a family cottage furnished with double beds and twin beds. Each of the cottages overlooks the picturesque “Born Free” Meru with an exclusive deck and seating area. Four of these rooms are capacious enough to accommodate an added bed for a young child. Bathrooms are attached and some of the rooms have an al fresco bath, also offering stunning views of the park. Elsa’s Kopje has a special accommodation suite for honeymooners or anniversary couples for their romantic trip in Kenya with AfricanMecca. This spacious suite is spread over three levels and includes a bedroom, intimate lounge and viewing deck. The Honeymoon Suite can be converted into a family suite and twin beds can be set up in the lounge. Larger groups can opt for the Private House that includes a main bedroom with attached dressing area and added room with twin beds. It also has an exclusive lounge-cum-dining-room overlooking your personal wild garden and infinity swimming pool. If needed, two added twin beds can be laid out for young kids. Meals at Elsa’s Kopje are an mouthwatering selection of continental dishes supplemented with vegetables and herbs grown in their private kitchen garden. But put in your requests for special dietary preferences with AfricanMecca Safaris when travel planning your delectable tour of East Africa. The lodge serves indoor meals during the day while candlelight dinners served under a canopy of the starlit skies of Meru. You can also experience the safari charm of having meals in the bush or picnic lunches when on your photo excursion in Meru National Park. Visit the rhino sanctuary to view its more than 70 inhabitants, both black and white. Go on game drives in the custom equipped safari vehicles with your expert and well-experienced guide who will help you track and spot terrestrial / aquatic animals and some of the 300 bird species in the green, dense camouflage of Meru (read more on when is the best time to visit Meru). You could also go on bush walks to perhaps view the smaller denizens and birds feeding in the bush or rivers. Fishing for barbell, tilapia and catfish is another exciting activity because the riverbanks are also frequented by kingfishers, herons and other fish feeders. Spend a whole day in the wilds of Meru and return to the lodge for a swim or pampering session at the spa . Sign off on your luxurious holiday in Meru with a souvenir stint at the lodge’s boutique in support of local artisans.
