WHERE TO STAY IN KAKAMEGA FOREST RESERVE

As unique as the forest where it is located, Rondo Retreat is a colonial-style getaway owned by the Trinity Fellowship. A Safari Tier 3 value accommodation by AfricanMecca Safaris standards, it is moderately affordable, comfortable and gives you friendly service with basic, no-frills pampered amenities. The lodge comprises of the main house and five other cottages that house the 15 rooms with attached bathrooms. Built using wooden planks and corrugated iron, the yellow-cream cottages with their white bordering and red roofs have a quaint colonial charm about them. The main house has three bedrooms aside from the common lounge and dining area. Furnished with comfy beds with mosquito nets, the rooms share a spacious bathroom. The other rooms are sited in the cottages, each with an attached bathroom with twin or double bedsteads. The decor brings back nostalgia of the yesteryears with their old pictures and relics somehow blending perfectly with African curios and objets d’art. Wide patios outside each of the rooms have seating arrangements where you can relax, absorb the lush environs and view the assorted butterflies, birds and small animals endemic to the rainforests of Kakamega (read more on tour activities). The lodge serves you good, wholesome meals in their dining area that is lit by candles in the evenings and a fire if the weather is cool. Spend your days at the Rondo Retreat exploring the woodland with its amazing inhabitants or spend a quiet hour of self-reflection in the church that stands on one end of the garden.
