AUTHENTIC SAFARIS & PERSONALIZED TOURS IN CHYULU HILLS WITH AFRICANMECCA
The vehicle is skillfully driven over a trail of two parallel tracks that are almost invisible in the tall grasses, most of which is higher than the vehicle. The vegetation clears, and in the distance you see the familiar and awkward stance – a normally graceful giraffe bending down to sip water from a rain pool. The vast knowledge of your Maasai guide gives you the most superior game watching excursion of your life. Taking you to the best vantage points in the park, he points out the shy bushbuck hiding in the thicker stands of trees, and on the open plains, he shows you a herd of fringe-eared oryx, including a large male displaying ringed horns that are almost 30 inches long. Your guide hands you a set of binoculars, pointing toward a lone tree. As you focus in, you see the thrilling sight of a female leopard on the branch with its cub hiding in the grasses beneath. Buffalos, elands, warthogs, reedbucks and many other herbivores are located, as well as lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, jackals and other predators.
Return to camp for a full breakfast, and then spend time relaxing or join your guide for a bush walk. Walking safaris are available in the private conservancies bordering Chyulu Hills, and your Maasai guide can take you out on a leisurely morning walk when it is best cool. You are enlightened about tracking techniques, medicinal uses of plants, scat identification and much more. Your guide also ensures you are briefed on safety procedures and risks should you come upon an animal. These walks can be as strenuous or relaxing as you wish, ranging from easy strolls to high-energy hikes.
After lunch, a short nap refreshes you, and afternoon tea prepares you for the late day activity of your choice. If you choose an afternoon game drive, your guide leads you to a rocky ledge with incredible views for sundowners, or you may join other AfricanMecca guests at the camp for cocktails around the fire before dinner. A non-traditional safari activity for your adventurous trip to Chyulu Hills Park is a horseback safari combined with fly camping. The well-trained horses can navigate the rugged highlands terrain, so you are able to reach locations that might not otherwise be accessible. At the end of the day, a modest camp is set up in the bush, and you fall asleep to the sounds of the African wilderness or for shorter rides, you can return back to your safari accommodation. We also recommend that you visit a Maasai village to learn about the traditions, beliefs, familial structures and ancient practices of Africa’s fierce warriors.
