GUIDE ON CAMPI YA KANZI IN KENYA
The upmarket Campi Ya Kanzi, situated at the southern base of the Chyulu Hills, close to Tsavo West, is a one-of-a-kind boutique camp where you receive the highest level of service in an exclusive, remote location in Kenya’s bush country. Hollywood stars like Edward Norton and Naomi Watts have traveled to Kenya and stayed here. Built in collaboration with the Maasai community, the accommodation envelops you in the culture of these native people, and you cannot help but share their deep connection and appreciation of nature. The Maasai will proudly share their ancestry, beliefs and traditions with you as they gratify your yearning for the East African way of life during your stay at Campi Ya Kanzi. Discovering the flora and fauna of the park with one of the camp’s Maasai guides will surely give you the most memorable and authentic safari experience of your lifetime, as the guides are quite adept at tracking and locating wildlife. Chyulu Hills National Park offers a spectacular wilderness for an exploratory safari in Kenya with AfricanMecca. The distinct elegant shapes of brilliant red hot poker plants stand in sharp contrast to the rugged, deep ebony lava flows that cut into the grassy plains. Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and other foraging animals roam freely under and around the powerful Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s most iconic geological formation. Situated within 280,000 acres of Maasai-owned land, the camp setting gives you the utmost comfort and privacy for your expeditionary holiday in Chyulu Hills Park. Very few visitors come to the park, so you and your guide could explore for days and never see another safari vehicle (read more on when is the best time to visit Chyulu Hills). Campi Ya Kanzi luxuriously accommodates a maximum of sixteen guests in 6 thatched-roof tented cottages and 2 tented suites and ten other guests in the private Kanzi House. Whatever rooming option you choose, you will have your own personal Maasai attendant should you require anything during your stay. The rustic ambience and traditional design of the camp take you back to a time when Ernest Hemingway first described the area as the “Green Hills of Africa.” Of the six cottages, four have twin beds, and the remaining two have a king-size bed – perfect for honeymooners and romantic escapaders. Tented suites have additional room for clothes storage and other items, as well as intimate sitting areas. Specially designed for families, Kanzi House is a private villa that accommodates up to six adults and four children in three double and two twin rooms. The house also features a private swimming pool, Jacuzzi and bewildering views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The jaw-dropping, heart-pounding excitement of the morning and afternoon game activities of your adventurous trip in Kenya will leave you needing quality rest, and you slumber peacefully in cozy feather mattresses and fine Italian linens. Prepare for your day in a refined bathroom before having a divine breakfast at Tembo House, after which you meet with your guide to schedule the day’s action-packed tour of Chyulu National Park. AfricanMecca guests may also opt have their breakfast after the morning activity. Thereafter, return to the camp for a relaxation while your scrumptious lunch is being carefully prepared, and then rejuvenate with a nap or massage before afternoon tea. Your guide once again takes you into the bush for an afternoon game drive, walk or even a horse riding safari, after which you join other like-minded guests for sundowners, dinner and engaging conversation. The staff of Campi Ya Kanzi are also available to enhance your dream vacation in Africa with photography and birding safaris, bush dining, astronomy lectures, excursions to nearby protected areas and village walks.
