GUIDE ON FAIRMONT MOUNT KENYA SAFARI CLUB
Spread on a terrain of beautiful, well-designed lawns on the inclines of Mount Kenya with grey crowned cranes and peacocks prancing around, the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club offers you the ultimate safari retreat experience that combines relaxation and leisure with luxurious living areas, exemplary, discreet service and sumptuous food. A colonial-style property covering an area of 100 acres, this hotel-like lodge has been renewed to include the necessary amenities for the discerning AfricanMecca guest traveling in the Mount Kenya wilderness. Founded by William Holden, the lodge has had a long list of illustrious visitors and welcomes you to join their hall of fame. They have 120 rooms, each including luxurious beds, a seating area and fireplace to warm the room. Safety deposit box, tea and coffee making arrangements, minibar, air-conditioning, clothes ironing equipment and internet services are available in the room for your use. The bathrooms come with premium add-ons, bathrobe, slippers and a hairdryer. The club lodge has varied rooms that include the Fairmont Room, Deluxe View Room and Deluxe Room. These rooms can comfortably sleep two guests each and the king sized bed in the Fairmont Room can be converted into twin beds as per your request. Mount Kenya Safari Club also has a collection of suites, some housed in individual cottages around the main house. Each suite accords you complete privacy and you can choose from views of the majestic Mount Kenya or the lawns where birdlife find solace. Unique in its own way, every suite has something magical to offer you. The Mawingo Suite is ideal for honeymooning couples on their romantic tour of intimate Kenya while the Garden Suite offers you sweeping views of the lawns where you might sight a marabou stork wandering around. Guests staying at the Raymond Suite can watch the many changing faces of the mountain as the sunlight plays on it. Raymond also features a lounge that is distinct from the bedroom. Enjoy the thrill of spending time on the actual equator when you stay in the Equatorial Suite and yes, it sits astride this unique marker on the earth. So, you could be lounging in the northern hemisphere but turn in for the night in the southern hemisphere. The Signature Suite, Manor Suite, Riverside Suite and Riverside Deluxe Suites are other well-appointed accommodations, ideal for your premier vacation in the highlands of East Africa. A family of four can opt for the William Holden Cottage that has interconnected rooms, one with a double and the other with twin beds. The club serves you delectable meals cooked to your specifications in the Tusks Restaurant. This dining area includes a terrace where you can have al fresco meals in complete tranquility. The Zebar is the watering hole where you can mingle and make friends with other guests on their boutique trip in Kenya. Or you could lounge beside the pool with drinks from the Swimming Pool Bar. While at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, spend your day horse riding or exploring the locale on a nature walk in the company of a naturalist. Play a round of golf or croquet on their lawns or go bowling in the lodge's bowling alley. You could also spend time playing table tennis, game drive at the nearby Ol Pejeta Sweetwaters Conservancy or perhaps go on a day trek up the mountain. For guests who intend only to relax on their Nanyuki holiday on the foothills of Mount Kenya, you may dip in for a leisurely swim in the outdoor heated pool. But a must is a visit to the William Holden Animal Orphanage (read more on when is the best time to visit Mount Kenya).
