GUIDE ON KONGONI LODGE IN KENYA
For guests who prefer a different type of trip to the wilds of Naivasha, Kongoni Lodge is a mid-range, deluxe accommodation that is situated away from the mainstream accommodations in Lake Naivasha. Situated within the private lands of Kongoni Ranch, the lodge allows you to see limited resident and traversing wildlife, and throughout the day you may see hippos, warthogs, antelopes, zebras and other herbivores scouring the gardens for tasty bits of vegetation. Although the lodge is set away from the shores of Lake Naivasha, you will still have enjoyable views of the adjacent Lake Oloiden during your Great Rift Valley tour in East Africa. The colonial-style architecture gives you a sense of yesteryear Kenya like a few other places around the “Happy Valley”. The 26 Deluxe two-room suites are tastefully and pleasantly decorated to bring you a sense of peace and tranquility. The wooden bed, nightstands, writing table, ceiling beams, wardrobe and chairs are cut from native trees with minimal re-shaping to bring the organic beauty of the forest indoors. Natural light enhances the warm tones of the interior design, and the large lounge, dining area and en-suite bathroom give you plenty of space for relaxing. One Deluxe suite is specially designed to meet the needs of guests with limited mobility. For couples who desire a secluded, romantic holiday in Kenya with AfricanMecca, the 3 Executive suites feature large king size beds, private plunge pool, indoor Jacuzzi, lounge, dining area and private verandah. For the best views of the Great Rift Valley, we recommend the guest rooms on the south side of the property. Common areas in the main house include two lounges, two spacious porches, living room with fireplace, swimming pool and full kitchen that is available to guests. For guests who prefer a minimalistic bush-travel experience, the lodge offers a campsite on the shores of Lake Oloidien.Start your day with a lovely cup of tea or coffee in your Kongoni room, and then join your expert guide for a morning boat tour. Your world-class birding safari at Lake Naivasha gives you access to more than 450 bird species. Morning light offers many photogenic moments of white-fronted bee-eaters, grey-capped warblers, saddle-billed storks, African fish eagles and many other avi-fauna that are found in the cliffs, forests, shores and shallows of the lake. The most abundant species are pink-backed pelicans and cormorants, and the most intriguing are the black herons that create a shading canopy with their wings. You may also choose to spend the earliest part of the day on a morning game drive in Kongoni Game Valley. Enjoy views of the lake while sampling an appetizing breakfast, and then spend the rest of your morning strolling in the gardens near the lodge, relaxing by the pool or writing in your journal. A delicious lunch brings about the need for quiet time and a short nap before afternoon tea. Evening game drives give you the opportunity to see the nocturnal creatures in the 1000 acres of Kongoni Game Valley, or you may prefer to spend your time on a guided nature walk, helicopter rides, horseback riding or even golfing at a nearby resort. For those AfricanMecca guests who seek an exploratory Kenyan wildlife holiday, hiking day trips to Hell’s Gate National Park can also be arranged with prior notice. Sundowners and an excellent dinner of intercontinental and local dishes enhance the pleasure of your day at Kongoni Lodge.
